Long, but good. And if you haven't already read the story on Al Stump and the so called Cobb gun owned by Halper, make sure you do so.

Re: A must read
Wow. That's all I can say.
The paragraph that bothered me most:
"Sotheby’s consultant and Halper associate Robert Lifson also had first-hand knowledge of issues regarding the authenticity of several Halper jerseys rejected by authenticators for the Sotheby’s sale. Yet, in his letter to the winner of the Robinson jersey he stated that he, “found nothing that would make (him) question the authenticity of the jersey.” He further stated in the letter; “I was so impressed with this jersey that I chose to put it among the opening highlights section of the catalogue.” (Years later the winner of the Halper Robinson jersey at Sotheby’s attempted to consign it to Lifson’s own auction house, REA. Lifson rejected it, stating it could not be authenticated.)"Comment

Re: HOF Joe Jackson jersey
Wow, ive heard of the barry halper collection from this site and havent realy looked into it. Spent the time since you posted about it looking into it a little more. I wonder how much of his stuff was fake? I guess mixing in the fakes with the good stuff has been going on in the hobby for a while. Or, atleast that is what i figured after reading these articles as well as the operation bullpen book.Baseball do what it do

I imagine the really really old stuff were the items that were questioned the most and the modern era items in the collection were found to be authentic. Halper was part owner of the Yankees and had access to these modern day players. Many players felt it was a priviledge to have an item in Halper's collection.
I can see this jersey story being picked up by the national news to correct what they reported in past that has proven now to be false.Regards,

Re: HOF Joe Jackson jersey
the hardest part to figure out is the conflicting story of how he obtained the items. Id imagine as much stuff as he had, it would be impossible to know for a fact that the items were actually used. I guess we will never know. Either way after seeing what he did have, you cant help but be amazed. Words realy cant describe it.Baseball do what it do

fake Shoeless jersey in Baseball Hall of Fame
This jersey was as phony as the team it represented.
A Chicago White Sox jersey displayed in the Baseball Hall of Fame as having been worn by "Shoeless" Joe Jackson in 1919 -- the year he and his teammates went down in infamy for throwing the World Series -- has been proven a fake, the Hall admitted to The Post.
The White Sox logo "contained acrylic [coloring] that was first created in 1941," said Brad Horn, a Hall of Fame spokesman.
The jersey, which was on display for a decade, is the latest fake baseball collectible found to have once belonged to Barry Halper, a storied New Jersey memorabilia collector who died in 2005.
