I thought some of you might think this is pretty cool. I think it's a really cool piece of memorbilia and has a wild story behind it.

That is a cool piece. If anybody has a "cheaters" collection going, this is a must add!:D

I think I'm gonna bid! I've always wanted this bat!! Thanks to the poster for sharing this. I made a post years ago asking if anybody knows where the bat is. I'm surprised to see it show up

Does it seem odd to anyone that Sosa's name isn't on the barrel? I'm going to try to find a REAL photomatch, but until then, it just doesn't seem normal for him to use a bat without his name on the barrel.

His name is on barrel. Glare makes it tough to see

ahhh that makes sense. I just noticed though that it has a reserve. It better not be crazy high cuz I've been wanting this bat for years

I remember being out on Waveland Avenue with the other Ballhawks that night...the reason for Sosa's ejection wasn't immediately made known. Devil Rays cathcer Toby Hall was the one who turned him in.

I heard the auction house expected the bat to fetch between 15-50k. That seems way high to me, but who knows!

It definitely went past my budget already. I can't expect for it to go crazy high because it doesn't even come with the handle. It's an interesting piece and definitely a piece with a story so whoever ends up with it will have something nice to add to their collection.

Didn't a Pete Rose corked bat go for significant cash a few years ago at auction (Lelands?)?

Yes, an internet casino purchased one for a little over $100,000. I think they planned to saw it in half but don't recall hearing anything about that ever happening.

ESPN is now covering the sale of the bat.

I wonder if my Rose bat would sell for more, this Sosa bat has a really unique story to it.

OT a little bit...

I have often thought about this scenario, what is stopping Sosa/Cubs from stepping into this picture, and claiming that this bat is stolen property? And further re-claiming it? If this bat was bought by Sosa for his personal use, basically Remlinger has stolen it from him. He selected it from the stadium, concealed it, and later departed the scene with it.

I have often thought of similar scenarios while standing in line getting autographs on GU bats. What stops an athlete from claiming that the GU bat I am having them sign is stolen property? I have no receipt for the bat from the player directly, or even the team in most cases.

I know Sosa and most athletes could care less about this stuff, but it is just something I have thought about.

Shoot for that price I would sell the barrel of a broken bat. I would be happy with that seeing how he's linked to steroids and his newly bleached skin.
