1972 Dick Allen Jersey on Ebay

After doing some research I cant find a photomatch of this jersey.
If you look at the pictures of Dick Allen on his top left of the jersey there are 7 red stripes from the shoulder to the zipper. But the jersey on Ebay it has 8.
Also if you look at the #1 on his right chest you can easily see how the # 1 doesn't match up the the red stripes. All the pictures I have are from '72.
If anyone else has anymore info please share.
    Thanks

The Seller states, "While the jersey is unquestionably authentic and game worn during the 1972 season, upon close inspection the numbers appear to have been removed and reattached or changed.

How about the NIC? You guys decide.

Jim I also think that the NIC is suppose to be in red stitching

Here is a 1972 name-swatch(Luis Alvarado) that I sold a while ago. It had a number change, and I believe this Allen did also. Always bet on black.

The reason I thought it was red was because in karamaxjoe website he has a 1971 jersey with red stitching and I thought it would be the same for '72. Here is a link to his http://www.freewebs.com/karamaxjoe/a...otoid=24816133

              Edgar,

My 1971 jersey was the last year of the flannels and the home collar stitching was red. In 1972 the Sox started wearing knits and the home collar stitching changed to black.

I think it would be difficult to get a good photomatch on a jersey that has had the numbers changed. The logo on the front also looks restored, but I couldn't prove that without seeing it up close. I would bet the stitching in the collar is good, even though it appears to be coming loose.

If the bid stays low on the Allen jersey I might make a run at it. The one problem is I'd always be bothered by the fact the numbers have been changed. I REALLY want one that's original like the one member ossteve has from this post.

I agree that its difficult photomatching the numbers because it might of been restored but the red stripes dont match. Just count the stripes from his left top shoulder and you can easily see that it doesn't match. As much as I would love the jersey I'm going to pass for now.

Gotta agree with Jim P...the NIC tag looks to have a stitch imprint behind it on the right half.

                    Dave,

To me, it looks like the NIC tag has come loose from the stitching on the top right. If the tag is stitched all the way around then I would agree it's been tampered with.

What's your thoughts on the number of pinstipe across the front? I know Dave Grob has done some research on that theory before.

What about the collar? The jersey looks to zip all the way up leaving a "U" shape collar but the '72 jersey example that both-teams-played-hard showed has an almost "V" shape to it like the zipper doesn't go all the way to the top.
                      Any idea?
                      Thanks

This looks like a legit '72 jersey that a collector had made to look like an Allen jersey.

Not a match to the eBay jersey, maybe a match to some of the other Allen photos:

Maybe. But, I think the Name In Collar swatch looks legit and authentic to '72 Sox shirts. Did '72 Sox pants have name swatches in the waistband?

Is anyone on the forum going to bid on this jersey? If they are, I won't bid. OR,

If the bids don't go too high, I'll throw a bid in because I believe it is a legitimate White Sox jersey and it would display well. As for it being worn by Allen, well that's certainly a moot point.
