What type of marker is best for signing baseball jersey number (blue Yankees number)

What type of marker is best for signing baseball jersey number (blue Yankees number)?

If anyone has experience and has photos of what theirs looks like, I would appreciate it.

I have seen some really light and weak ones, and some very bold beautiful ones.

    Thanks for any help
    Tom

I'd go with a silver paint pen. Regular Sharpies will come out bad.

      Tom,
I have had great luck with a Deco White Paint Pen. They also make one in silver if that is what you like. Just make sure you shake it up before hand. Never fades and looks dynamite.

Don't just shake it up, test it on a piece of paper or something to be sure it is working first. Just shaking it up doesn't mean it will instantly start.

Paint pen is the way to go, but always test it first and bring your own pen with you. Paint Pens are not all created equally.....some of them bleed like crazy. I would only recommend the brand that can be purchased at Michael's Craft Shop (DECO COLOR).

I have had some miserable experiences with bad paint pens. A few years ago, I bought a cheap numbered mesh Jersey at Marshalls and it is now my Test Jersey. I actually find that the Deco Color Liquid Silver "Fine Line" tops the chart as the best Pen.

                Good Luck.

I came across this experiment that someone on another autograph forum did with different color sharpies and pens. Silver sharpies usually don't don't come out looking as good as a paint marker. Hopefully it helps people decide what color pen or marker to use for future autographs:

Ok this is a little strange, but a while ago I found these industrial sharpies, and noticed on the back it said that the ink resists fading in UV light. I thought this would be a useful property for autographs, as I would want the most permanent markings possible. So I set out to determine if the claims were true, and tested some other implements along the way.
I took an acid free piece of paper and wrote on it with:

                  Black Industrial Sharpie
Regular Sharpies: Blue, Black, Green, and Red
                  Bic Pens: Blue and Black
                  Black Gel Pen
then I took a scan of it

I taped it on the inside of a west facing window, text side towards the outside. The window glass has no special properties: UV blocking ect. Then one year later I took it down and scanned it again with the same settings. Check out the change.

Claims of the industrial sharpie are true, it faded slightly, but fared much better than the standard black sharpie. Notice that Blue Sharpie, Red Sharpie, and Black Bic are completely gone. There is no trace that they were ever there! Blue Bic and Green Sharpie are visible, but nearly gone, Regular Black Sharpie faded noticeably, buy is still readily seen. The best of this grouping though is Bic Gel in black. It is as fresh as the day I wrote it
                  side by side comparison:

Great post Jules. I actually have a test baseball I've been using but I can't remember what pen did what! I'm not as organised as you, I was just signing my name

I would appreciate it if anyone could recommend a pen to get this type of finish on baseball cards:

Is that one of the Deco Colours Chris?

                        Thanks for the info!

Went with the silver deco paint pen. Came out great!

The person taking the autograph tickets asked me what type of pen it was. Haha
