    1960's Cowboys Jersey Question

    Greetings to all. I am trying to get some information of placement of "TV" numbers on Cowboys jerseys that were made up to and including 1969. During this period, I have always assumed and I have been told by several collectors and/or dealers the Cowboys wore their "TV" numbers on the shoulder of their jerseys yet two (2) jerseys have recently shown-up with the "TV" numbers on the sleeves.

    The white jersey is from 1966 - the body of the jersey is mesh and the sleeves are knit. The blue jersey is circa 1967-1968 and it is all durene. Both of the jerseys were made by Southland with the Southland tag in the collar.

    Any help would be most helpful.

    Jim

    I really don't have any exact information. I guess that with those durenes, when shoulder pads were worn...the TV numbers would appear to be on the shoulders. Some game photos from the era would help.

      1960-1963: TV numbers were on the sleeve
      1964-1969: TV numbers were on the shoulder pad
      1970-1973: TV numbers were on the sleeve
      1974-present: TV numbers are on the shoulder pad

        The seller specifically states the jersey is circa 1966 - 1969. Over the weekend, I spent a lot of time looking at vintage photos and could NOT find any "STYLE" match for the years the Seller states.

        The 1st two scans are from 1966 - so 1966 is OUT;
        The 3rd scan is from 1967 (No NOB nor is there room for a NOB) so 1967 is out;
        The 4th scan is 1969 - the NFL shield is on the sleeve so 1969 is out.

        That leaves just 1968 so I'll keep looking.

        Thanks for the input guys - I appreciate it.

          Here are some pics from 1968. As you can see, the TV numbers are on the pads, not the sleeves. That Meredith jersey must be some sort of reproduction. The only Dallas player to wear #65 from 1970-73 was defensive end Doug Mooers in 1970. Still, that jersey seems a little too "royal blue" for that era.

            Slats7 - thanks for the information. The Seller specifically stated 1966-69 and it was worn by John Wilbur. I've eliminated 1966 (3 sleeve stripes) and 1969 (NFL patch was worn on the sleeve) so that leaves only 1967 and 1968 and I could NOT find a single photo from 1967 and 1968 with sleeve numbers so those years are out.

            I then considered that they could have been mistaken as to the era the jersey MAY HAVE BEEN WORN but in 1970 and on, the team wore NOB's and in looking at the back of the jersey, there's doesn't seem to be enough room to accommodate a nameplate - so 1970's is out. Besides, the Seller never stated that a NOB was removed.

            Thanks again,

            Jim

              Your seller obviously did next to no research regarding the evolution of DC jerseys or their authenticity. If I were you, I'd pass.
