Frequent Yankee winner dies at 82

Gil McDougald, the 1951 A.L. Rookie of the Year and a fixture in the Yankees lineup from 1951-60, died Sunday of prostate cancer at his home.

In his ten years with the Yankees, McDougald was a member of 8 A.L. pennant-winning teams and 5 World Series winning squads.

It's late at night, and I'm tired...spellings of the man's name should be McDougald.

I'm no Yankees fan, but I, too, consider it a sad day. From all accounts, McDougald seemed to be a pretty classy guy. Human, too...he was willing to retire after his line drive creamed Cleveland pitcher Herb Score in the face if Score ended up having his career ended by the shot to the head.

That killed his career. Gil was a truly great talent but his line drive accident haunted him his whole career and ruined him as a player
