The bat listed below is a fake. It's listed as a 2008 game used bat, but it is really a retail bat. You can tell because starting in 2009 they date stamped the knob and also Longoria had his signature with a 3 put on his bats.

In 2008 when there were no date stamping, Longoria only had his old signature w/o the 3.

This bat has no date stamp and has his signature with a 3 branded in the nameplate. One of those pro-quality Longoria retail bats that you can buy anywhere for $100 or less. Don't fall for it!

Now after readin the above, it seems confusing. The bottom line is, if a Longoria bat does not have the date stamping under the knob, it should have his old signature (which does not portray his #3 in the brand).

If the bat has date stamping, it should have his new signature with a 3 in the brand. I'll post pics of the 2 later.

This bat has no date stamp but has his new signature with the 3 in the brand. Clearly not a 2008 bat like the auction states as it has a signature brand that wasn't used in 2009. It's clearly not from 2009 as it doesn't have the date stamping under the knob.

Clear as mud.....

I've seen Rawlings bats, and a couple of other brands, with players' names stamped into them, for sale on a retail basis and popular among certain autograph-seekers - "show bats", I call them - but I don't think I've ever seen a Louisville Slugger (particularly not with a script or cursive name stamp) for sale to the public. Not saying you're wrong - I've just never seen it. BMH?

Also, not every LS has a date stamp on the knob. I've got a couple made as recently as 2010 that have no stamp.

All LVS bats made for pros made from 2009 on will have the date stamp. If you have a bat that was used in 2009 that doesn't, then it is a carry over from 2008.

That Longoria bat was a fake. The tell was that he said it was from 2008, but the signature stamp on the barrell was of his "new" signature which wasn't used until 2009, which then had the date stamping and weight stamping.

Below is a link to one of these pro-quality retail bats.

Another tell, is that Longoria does not cup his bats. His are uncupped. BMH would confirm this.

Something doesnt look right about the bat. I like the smiley face on the knob, since hes been known to do so... but with the influx of bats coming straight from longoria, why take the chance?

I was offered the bat by the seller prior to him listing it on ebay. After I pretty much said I wasn't interested it showed up on ebay,

I didn't bother to tell him it had EL's 2009 bat sig.

All of my 2009's have the date stamping as early as Feb 2009. That is earliest I have.

The bat sold for cheap money ($164.00 and change) compared to what Longoria's usually sell for. That could be a sign???

Yeah, the fact it was cupped and it had his 2009 signature and not date stamping is enough for me to say it's a retail bat with some Schmoe's use on it.

The fact that someone paid $164 for a retail bat used by a nobody is amazing to me. Oh well....

I believe ALL of his bats made in 2009 had is new signature. I know none of his 2008 bats did as I have a WS bat of his and it had his old sig.

If I remember correctly Brian (BMH) said he was at the Rays Spring Training in 2009 and obtained ELo's autographs for his new bat signature branding....

Yes he did indeed.
