Ebay is doing nothing about Shill Bidding.....

    This seller Member id fletcher4428
    Member id fletcher4428
fletcher4428is shill bidding. I emailed ebay days ago and they have not done anything. The same bidder with zero feedback won four of his auctions last week and four items have been re-listed.

Well the same bidder is the high bidder on three of the four items (AGAIN!)

Guillen bat currently up for auction....

Guillen bat he won last week.....

Bidder has placed 35 bids on 13 different items with the same seller......

Can anybody try & report this clown???
    Thank you,
    David

Yes, anyone can report it. eBay will look into it. However, once reported, it is out of the public's hands.

eBay will not do anything, I have reported items before. Keep in mind, the more an item sells for, the more fees eBay can get from the seller.

Re: Ebay is doing nothing about Shill Bidding.....

Shill bidding is bidding that artificially increases an item's price or desirability. It's also bidding by the people the seller knows-including family members, roommates, or employees-who could have certain information about the item that other members aren't aware of. To make sure no one gets an unfair advantage, we don't allow shill bidding on eBay. If people close to you want to buy your item, they can use a format that doesn't involve bidding, such as Buy It Now. Make sure your listing follows our guidelines. If it doesn't, it may be removed, and your buying and selling privileges could be restricted. If you think another member's breaking the rules, report it. You can also click the Report item link under the Seller info box on any item listing page.

I would go ahead and place a bid. If you are the winner and you feel you were shill bidded, don't pay for the auction, then report that auction to Ebay and have Ebay take care of it. Sellers can't leave negative feedback anymore so there's really nothing to lose.

IF, ebay decides to look into and find the seller at fault they will close the listing and the sellers account receives a strike & will be monitored for future issues for 30 days. Repeat offenders face suspension, and closed accounts.

Mind you, this is all IF ebay decides to look into the matter. Like I said, all you can do is report it.

Re: Ebay is doing nothing about Shill Bidding.....

I recall one shill bidding trick from several years ago that was from an account of a seller since shut down on that account, although he has appeared on other IDs since.

The seller had one account he sold from, and another registered in another family member's name that was his "fail safe". If an item he listed wasn't drawing sufficiently high bids with an hour or 2 left, he'd use the family member's ID to place a snipe and "win" his own item.

I confronted the guy on it and asked him what the deal was, as I knew about the dual accounts. His response was that he was using the alternate account "to bid on (his own) items for friends who weren't registered with eBay". When I expressed my skepticism of his explanation, he responded "Well, don't YOU bid on items for other people?". I told him, "Yeah...but not items I listed as a seller!" The subject was changed by him immediately.

Just thought to mention a form of shill bidding that isn't as common as what is usually encountered.

Saying you don't allow shill bidding and doing something about it are 2 very different things. Ebays actions/inactions speak louder than any rule they claim to have. I have personally reported several sellers who were not even trying to hide it with absolutely no action by eBay.

They just want to offer that auction house feel.

Maybe they can start extending the auctions for a few days too.

What Ebay will do is force both accounts to do a feedback things on a survey they provide. It's so the account holders understand why it's wrong and Ebay informs them that it's illegal. It's basically a slap on the wrist.

I have also found alot of times emailing them does no good. You have to call them and make the report.

I have only reported this 2 times and both times within a couple weeks the accounts where closed.

Same seller also has a Fernando Perez bat that was won by the same "bidder" twice. It is now re-listed for the third time.
