Hi friends the other day I received an NFL jersey that exhibits no use but has year/sizing swatch on the inner collar, Made in Berlin, WI U.S.A. tagging and a size flag tag affixed to the jocktag.

My question is is this jersey a pro cut or game issued team jersey? What is quite unique about this jersey is that on the front underneath the number is a pocket hard warmer stitched onto the jersey. I have never seen this before on other game worn or game issued jerseys. Thank you and have a good day!

Okay, I see you are not the person who sold this to me. You're not in the Buffalo, New York area. How did you know the player on this jersey?

Just a guess. Someone on another board posted photos of a Roethlisberger jersey and wanted to know if it was a genuine Reebok authentic. He was interested in buying it.

At first he only had a couple photos and when I asked him to ask the seller where it was made, the guy said Germany. That seemed odd, then I figured he saw the Berlin tag inside.

He posted a few more pics and from what I could see, it looked like a game jersey...but I'm no expert. No idea if that size is correct, but I'd guess it's in the ballpark. From the sleeves, shoulder material, size tag, it obviously wasn't a retail authentic.

Do you have a link to this other board?

I forgot to attach this in the first post. This is the pocket warmer. Does that other board talk about this?

Would you mind posting the link to the forum or uploading the images posted there so I could take a look and see if this is the same jersey?

The first pics were just closeups, so we couldn't see any tagging, pockets, etc. And we were initially comparing it to Reebok authentics.

This was the best photo from the first batch. The 2nd set included tagging photos.

I don't have the jersey with me now because I gave it to a friend who is going to the Super Bowl to see if he could get Ben to sign it. What other photos were posted on the other forum? The only thing I can do is load those Pham sent me. Are these the same ones?

Haha! So that's where Big Ben beef jerky comes from :D What do you think of the jersey - pro cut or game issued? I'm clueless when it comes to NFL gamers as I only collect baseball. Saw this at a good price and with my friend going to the BIG GAME I gave it to him to try to get Ben to sign, bring it back, hopefully the Steelers win the Super Bowl and profit big on Ebay.

it's pretty obvious this is a customized Roethlisberger jersey that was created either from either a blank jersey or previous player with name/number removed. the material of the nameplate and font lettering are both inconsistent with Steelers game jerseys. Ben also wears sizes 48/50 and this is the first time seeing a size 52.

http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/showthread.php?t=3191&highlight=roethlisberger

also read more about Steelers game jerseys here and you'll see the team holds a very tight grip on all game items and doesn't release them for sale to the public. only a handful of Steelers game jerseys, like Santonio Holmes with JoSports, have surfaced. at best, you have a Steelers pro cut jersey (not game issued because you don't have proof where this originated from) customized with Roethlisberger's name and number. make sure you clearly distinguish this when you sell it and don't mislead potential buyers.

Is your nameplate thread black or gold?

I am assuming black thread since the jersey and name plates are both black? My friend has the jersey now trying to get Ben to sign and I don't have it with me to inspect.
Contact me personally if you are thinking of buying this from me I will not sell it less than I purchased for.

Lettering looks pretty similar to the game photo on left...at least to me.

Just a word of advice that I learned the hard way. If you have a GU Jersey that is important to you, you should always try to attend a private signing or some format where you will get the best possible signature with good authenticity.

I once had a Jersey that I haphazardly stuck in a players face to be signed and it became a mess. The player scribbled his name and the signature could never be authenticated.

If you have a "Keeper", you should always take your time and do it right. It also gives you the opportunity for the player to personalize the Jersey for you....Such as "2011 Superbowl MVP" etc.

Unless your buddy is planning on having Lunch with Rothlesburger, I would tell him not to go out of his way to have it signed.:)

the 7 is also off notice the ones Ben is wearing has a narrower longer cut at the top part of the number while the jersey posted is more short and chunky.

Again, I don't really see a difference between the number and letters when looking at the Getty image on left.

Maybe the O in the nameplate...looks narrower, but it could just be that it's not laying flat.

But at the end of the day, my name's Pierre...

this is a real game issued Ben jersey cut to his specifications can you see the difference in the 7 now? this looks more like a match to the Getty Image

Agreed....The Material and Font of the name plate and number looks identical to me. When I first looked at the nameplate material, it looked too shiny, but I think that the Getty image is the same material.

mbenga28

I think it's the camera angle or maybe it was snowing/raining that game so it gives the jersey a slick look to it. Take a look at other Steelers game jerseys and there is no shiny material on the nameplates.

IMO....The 7 in the Getty image on the right is identical to the Jersey posted. I don't see any difference in the Ebay listing at all.....Although my eyesight isn't what it once was.....

Hey, I'm not saying the BBR jersey is legit, I'm just saying what looks similar to me. The left Getty pic looks to have a shiny nameplate. I realize this is not the norm for Steelers jerseys, but that's what it looks like. And maybe it's snowing or raining in that dude's house and that's why the nameplate looks shiny on the jersey that's on the hanger. And if we're going to use the camera angle argument, then how can you be so sure the 7 on the left Getty photo isn't the same as the jersey on the hanger?

Also, does anyone know what size Ben wore his rookie season and what size he wore last season? Because I'd bet my house that BBR was 30 lbs. heavier last year, than he was during his rookie season.

does it appear to you that the beginning top of the 7 in both Getty Images also appear slanted whereas the jersey posted it doesn't have any curves?

I'm guessing Ben wore a size 42 in his rookie season since this jersey has the older Reebok tagging

I'm guessing BBR has never worn a size 42 pro jersey.

And isn't that Reebok Steelers tag in the last link from before BBR was even in the NFL?

I don't know much about team tags. seeing this is the same seller who sold the other Ben game issued 08-50 and that this 42 looks to have the same nameplate material and font as the Getty Image, I assume this jersey is also fine as well.

I'm not sure if Ben holds any signings and if so it will probably be after the Super Bowl when the hype dies down. If my friend is able to get this signed I'll include the used Super Bowl ticket as proof of authentication.

Hi salmon when you get the jersey back could you post some photos of the sleeves and Reebok logo? I just want to see how that looks. Thank you.

Hi salmon, do you have any updates on whether you were able to get the jersey signed and if you are still selling it? After some additonal research and speaking with those very knowlegable about Steelers game items, I strongly believe your jersey is not a team prepared game issued rather a blank pro cut that was customized into a Roethlisberger jersey with similar specifications to his gamers. Contact me so we can discuss this further.
