View Full Version : Question for Game Used Cap Owners

I am mostly a cap collector. I've been collecting pro-model baseball caps since childhood. Now I am starting to build up my game used cap collection and I am faced with a predicament: To clean or not to clean? I am mosty talking about sweatbands (unless the cap is very heavily used). I worry if they are left to fester as-is that the caps will get moldy. For example, on eBay right now there is a game used 1976 Brooks Robinson cap with a leather sweatband that is as fuzzy as a kitten. I figure using a disinfectant wipe just enough to moisten the front of the sweatband (cloth or leather) and then wiping the backside down could kill any germs that are in there. I've done that with moldy non-game used caps and it works like a charm, but if you do that to a game used cap will it lose value? I'm not sure what I should do.

Thanks!
