      INAUGURAL GAME BUMP...49 years ago today the Mets played their first MLB game, losing to St. Louis 11-4 at Sportsman's Park. Larry Jackson bested Roger Craig, and Gil Hodges hit the first ever Met homer off Jackson, a solo shot in the 4th inning.
