many people's first introduction to the "authentic diamond collection" label was when russell athletic began supplying mlb jerseys in 1992.
however, both majestic and new era have used the "diamond collection" logo/moniker for their pro items. majestic was using the logo on batting jerseys they supplied during the 90s and new era was using it in their caps. (rawlings and wilson seem to be the only jersey manufacturers not to have adopted the "diamond collection" logo on their pro jerseys).
my questions:
does anyone know any of the business details behind how the "diamond collection" came about? who started it?
more importantly, does anyone know when "diamond collection" items were first manufactured? i'm thinking it may have been earlier than 1992. 1991 maybe? 1990? (anyone have any gameworn new era caps from 1991 or earlier that they can look inside?)
