Mel Queen, a P/OF for the Reds and Angels from 1964-72, died on May 13th at age 69.
Queen came up as an outfiedler, but began to try his hand at pitching in 1966, and became a full-time moundsman the following season, going 14-8 for the Reds.
His father was Mel Queen, a pitcher for 8 years from 1942-52 (no MLB games in 1943 and 1945) with the Yankees and Pirates. He died in 1982.
