Jim Pyburn, an outfielder for the Baltimore Orioles of 1955-57, died on May 21 at age 78.
Pyburn's only mainstream baseball card appearance was in the 1957 Topps set.

Pyburn was also an assistant football coach at the Univ of Georgia for many years. In fact, his son Jeff was a QB there & graces the cover of the 1979 Collegiate Street & Smith annual.
For those of us who grew up in the football-mad South, we knew Jim Pyburn mainly from his football fame. He was an All-America receiver at Auburn and, as ironmanfan mentioned, was a defensive coach for many fine Georgia teams under Vince Dooley.
Pyburn was from my hometown of Birmingham (actually born in adjacent Fairfield where Willie Mays is from), and Pyburn is a member of the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. May he rest in peace.
