Former Cav, Spur dies of cancer
Mike Mitchell, a 10-year NBA vet from 1978-79 through 1987-88 with Cleveland and San Antonio, died of cancer at age 55.
Mitchell spent the first 3 1/2 years of his career with the Cavs, then spent the rest of his NBA career with the Spurs. He was a member of two Spurs squads that advanced to the NBA Western Conference Finals, being beaten by the Lakers both times. He was an All-Star in 1981, averaging 24.5 points for the season on a woeful Cavs team. His career scoring average was 19.8. After leaving the NBA, he played in Europe for another decade.
