    Jorge Posada Game-Used Helmet

I just unexpectedly received a Jorge Posada game used helmet as a gift from
a customer in Japan. How it ended up there I have no idea.
I had known about this helmet for some time now and was trying to
obtain it for a forum member here but I never pulled the trigger
as I am not too knowledgeable about Posada helmets. The pine-tar
on the helmet seems pretty consistent from what I've seen on TV
and photographs. I am not sure about the size since the sticker is gone
    but its about a 7 1/4 - 7 3/8. There is a regular Steiner hologram on the
inner brim that may indicate this is a Yankee-Steiner item that pre-dates
the numbered holograms you see now.
My only concern is a lack of the 20 sticker on the back. However there
is glue residue of an oval shaped sticker removed from the right side
of the MLB Batman logo. There is no date wheel inside of the helmet.
The helmet shows tremendous use and my thought is that its legit
but would like to hear opinions and/or facts. If in fact its fake, it's
    a really good one.
I don't have time to try and photomatch it right now.

    Thanks,
    Goh Nishiyama

PS I know I promised a forum member here to sell it to him if I ever
did get it but now that I received it as a gift I am looking to keep it.

Goh! You got it! Awesome! I understand it was a gift. Just promise to come to me first if you decide to let it go. I am not a helmet guy so I am not extremely knowledgable on them but I am thinking that it will be fairly easy to photo match. The one thing that makes me think it is good is the application of tar. I have seen one before (from a forum member) that was no good. The tar was applied directly to the helmet instead of transferred from the bat to his hand to his helmet. You can clearly see that is not the case here and this tar is from transfer, although a lot of it. I do remember looking at many many pics of Posada helmets trying to photo match one once and did see a pic from the early 2000's with no 20 on the back. Obviously not the norm though.

              Re: Jorge Posada Game-Used Helmet

              Hey Yanks,
Thanks so much. I found a few more pictures from Getty as well
              showing matches from 2006.
I think the oval sticker residue next to the MLB logo was actually
leftover glue from the older big MLB Authentication hologram.

My customer who gave this to me as a gift bought it as a 2003 World Series
game-used helmet from a "well-known" authenticator in Japan. My assumption
is somebody removed the MLB authentication hologram because it
proved it was from 2006. It also explains why my customer never
              received the Steiner LOA.

Steve, if I ever let go of this you will be the next owner. For now I just
have to follow my general principle that I don't let go of gifts. Sorry
I almost regret starting this thread now..
