Based on MLB usage, the Rawlings tag looks to be of 1990-93 vintage.

thanks for narrowing this down some

is there any rhyme or reason to that type of tagging? meaning, could it be a high school or lower level jersey?

That was the type of tag Rawlings used on non-contract supplied jerseys (Cardinals, Pirates) in '92-'93. The tag also appeared on Rawlings-made Turn Back the Clock unies from 1990-91 (1990/1917 White Sox, 1991/1961 Reds, 1991/1966 Orioles, 1991/1961 Phillies, 1991/1925 Giants). While Rawlings did outfit all those ballclubs in 1990-91, the retro jerseys, for some reason, did not use the normal white rectangular "official licensee" company label that their normal style attire for these teams had in those two years. Since "St. John's" was not a Major League team, this red tag was used by default.

I hope this helps a little bit.
