paragonauctions: nomar garciaparra

I received my catalog from paragon auctions which starts next week. In the catalog and up for auction is a 2001 game used nomar garciaparra Redsox jersey. The American flag is on the back which means it was after Sept 11. It stats that the jersey shows nice use. Nomar only played 21 games that year from late July to late August. Could someone help me out did Nomar play a game after Sept 11. Thanks.

You are correct in your time line. He broke his wrist and was out all but 21 games in 2001. No way he could of worn that jersey.

Were new jerseys with the flag patches made after September 11? Or could the flag have been applied to a used jersey, meaning it could have been used pre-9/11 and still have the patch?

According to the baseball reference he played basically all
of August with his lays game coming on the 26th. he went 24 for 83 at the dish during that time. Here's the link to the site.

I would think that even though he didn't play in Sept that the jersey would be from the time he did play that year with the patch being applied to an already used jersey...I don't think they issued new jerseys with the patch.

I am in agreement with Wayne's assesment. New caps were ordered for the resumption of MLB games post 9/11, but the jerseys were the same as being used earlier in the season.

I know other teams applied flag patches to already used jerseys and in at least one case the Reds added flag sticker to helmet of injured player that was out for the season as of September.
