I was recently contacted by a guy who has a Curt Schilling game used Diamondbacks hat. He said that he received it directly from Curt himself after an Astros game in 2001 or 2002. The handwriting is consistent with other examples I've seen. My only concern is the size of the hat. Curt wore a 7 1/2 during his Phillies days and this hat is a size 7 1/4. I have yet to see any of his Diamondbacks or Red Sox hats so I don't have anything to compare it to.

If anyone can provide me with any additional information or feedback, I would really appreciate it as I would love to add this hat to my collection if it is legit.

Thanks in advance,
Scott

Scott......Schilling started out with the Orioles wearing a size 7 3/8 as evidenced by the one in my collection. Then the size increased through the years to 7 1/2.......this being common with most men as they get older anyway. So a true Schilling Diamondbacks hat should be around 7 1/2, but certainly not 7 1/4. That's too many hat sizes going the opposite direction. :)

I once owned a D-Backs Schilling gamer...I can't recall if it was 7 3/8 or 7 1/2, but I KNOW it wasn't 7 1/4.

Hunt Auctions have been auctioning off a lot of items from Schilling recently (All Star Game Auction & Monthly Internet) and I'd check to see what those hat sizes are.........

That was one of the first places I checked. They only auctioned off one game used hat and it was a one size fits all that he wore during the World Series celebration.

A quick search of Hunt produced the following hats being sold consigned by Schilling in the current auction:

Phillies 1997 7 3/8
Phillies 1998 7 3/8
Diamondbacks 7 3/4 (year not specified)

Thanks for those. I guess I didn't think about those because they're not game used. I guess I have to assume that they're game issued.

I e-mailed the seller of the hat back stating that I couldn't verify it's authenticity so that I would have to pass for now and he informed me that someone from these forums contacted him and bought it anyway. Not really sure how I feel about that considering the authenticity is in question or someone went behind my back because they knew something that I didn't. Just doesn't leave a good taste in my mouth to be honest.

Feel free to ignore my last post. The seller explained the situation and clarified things a bit.

Well, in any event, you did good by passing on something you were uncomfortable with.......Based on what I know, I personally would have never felt comfortable with a size 7 1/4. :)
