    RIP: Ernie Johnson

Ernie Johnson Sr., a former Braves pitcher and broadcaster, died Friday at age 87.

Johnson pitched for 8 seasons for the Boston/Milwaukee Braves (1950, 1952-58). He was a member of both Milwaukee World Series teams. After that, he became a Braves announcer, working regularly until 1999.

Johnson pitched a ninth season for the Orioles in 1959 and was in camp with the 1960 Indians but was cut before the season.

The team will wear a memoriam patch in his honor for the remainder of 2011.

That's really too bad. Just curious, is there some kind of death debriefing, or do you just scour the papers looking for these?

        I always liked Mr. Johnson.

Another one of the greatest generation lost.

I don't buy either Chicago paper (political reasons). I check news and sports websites, league websites, Yahoo and Hotmail, and the Baseball Reference and Baseball Almanac websites.
