I have seen several Bench jerseys from this era and they have all been Size 44. Specifically, jerseys from 77, 78 and 80 were all size 44. His weight was typically over 200. 42 just seems a little small.

I'd like additional Forum input on this but, when I zoom in on the tag, the stitching directly attached to the flag tag seems to be a different pattern, and possibly one or two stitch holes are there as well. Plus I agree that the size is off. I'd be hesitant.

I've seen a 1975, and he was a 44 then.

I've had three of his jerseys in my hands and they were all size 44. One was a 73, the other was a 77 and the last was a 78. I've seen a supposed 80 away jersey(set 3) that was size 42(wilson).

Legendary has posted a notice on this jersey that it actually measures out as a size 44 jersey. Given the tapered cut from this era, the only real way to measure a jersey from this timeframe is to compare it to other examples. I have 2 Reds home jerseys from 1979. One is a size 40 and the other is a Size 42. The 40 measures 22" armpit to armpit. The 42 measures 23" armpit to armpit. Many collectors have the understanding that if you measure armpit to armpit and multiply by 2 that will result in the size of the jersey. Depending on the cut of the jersey, this is not always the case. In the case of the Bench, I am willing to bet Rawlings has it right. This is a size 42 jersey.

That uniform was sold on Ebay many years ago. Every Bench jersey I have seen in the late 70's and early 80's is a size 44...Do you really think the manufacturer would make such a mistake?

So you don't think it's possible that sizing may vary slightly from one manufacturer to another?
