I’ve long been able to observe the St Louis Cardinals organization doing things very well, as a division rival. Most recently, I was really impressed with how well their memorabilia and game used merchandising is run. Cardinal fans who may have been married… or taken their kids to a first game in the last several years can actually order a game used baseball from that date’s game (http://shop.mlb.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=3302299) at the Cardinals Authentics website (http://www.cardinalsauthentics.com/). Also bases.. and a broad array of game used bats and other memorabilia (autographs, jerseys, locker room nameplates, etc)

So I can go to the site, select the product category and/or year to the product from the date I’d want to memorialize and then select the date in the drop down menu for “color”. Some of the items date back as far as 2005 -- which is really an amazing opportunity for someone to memorialize a game date 6 years later.

For die-hard Cards fans there is a Retired Numbers Collection (http://shop.mlb.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=12079148), and also a line of Forever Cardinals Collection Pieces (http://shop.mlb.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=12079149).

Hey, thanks for this post. I was able to order a ball from 8-12-09 which is my daughters first game we went to. I went out on a limb and promised her that since it was her first game Albert would hit a home run for her......I think it was the 4th inning and he sent a screamer out of left field! Here is the reaction captured by my wife.

Great pictures...and to think there are people who say sporting events are not for kids....

I am so very happy that you were able to get a ball! In my humble opinion, its stories like yours which give the hobby its legs. Whatever our team, whoever our favorite players are... we all love the game because it passes so well between generations!
