I need some thoughts and opinions regarding this Harold Carmichael 1984 Dallas Cowboys road jersey. The Russell tag is in brown color. Grey Flannel auctioned off a Danny White 84 home jersey a couple of years ago and the Russell tag is white. Would Russell have two different style tags for the same year jerseys?

Any other thoughts / opinions regarding the jersey will be well received.

Sorry, the D. White jersey has the red / blue style tag, the Carmichael is brown style.

Awesome looking jersey, I forgot he played for Dallas. I'm not knowledgeable about Cowboys jerseys but this looks to me like it could be a retread from 82 or 83 with a new nameplate, wouldn't be that unusual even in 1984 to use jerseys from prior seasons.

As genius mentions, recycled jerseys in that era aren't unusual. I belive the transition year between the brown tag and the red/ble version was 1983, so the presence of a brown tag on a 1984 item isn't, in and of itself, an issue.

Thanks to Genius and Dave for your insight. :)

Are there any issues or questions regarding this jersey?

The nameplate looks off to me, that's Harold to the right of Tom Landry below and you can clearly see it. Other photos have a different font as well.

Here are two other jerseys (allegedly) from the 1984 season that were sold at Hunt Auctions years ago.

Note how the Russell tags differ significantly from Carmichael's. As for recycling, there was no #17 on the Dallas roster in 1982 or 1983, so I'm not sure if that theory holds water. Of course, some scrub in pre-season could have worn that number, so you never know.

The only other thing I'll add is that the V-neck on Carmichael's jersey appears way too dark. It's almost black in color.

Another thing: check out the E' and R's on the Hunt jerseys and Carmichael's. They don't match up.

Thanks Slats. You're right about the fonts.

Now here's another perplexing piece of information. Grey Flannel auctioned off a Danny White home white jersey in their 2009 auction (item number 325). It looks like the "E" in White (from the Grey Flannel auction) is similar, if not matching, to the Carmichael font. I am comparing the photo of the White jersey in the GF catalog (Summer Games 2009) as I can't locate the listing on line.

I've been in contact with the seller and asked for more info as to the source of the jersey. Maybe she can shed more light on this jersey.

Thanks again to everyone who has responded! This is why the GUU forum is an invaluable source of knowledge!

Russell Athletic used the black and gold tag into the 1983 season. Sometime during the year, they changed to the red and blue logo.

Regarding the Hunt jerseys, Randy White's 25th Anniversary patch appears to be in the wrong location.

Dorsett's patch, however, is in the right place (though not a perfect match).

Jeffredsfan, here's a pic from a 1984 home game vs the Skins. The E doesn't match the E on the Carmichael jersey.

You're right again, Slats. The picture listed in the GF auction catalog doesn't quite show the full, straight on view of White's last name. The "E" is kind of viewed from the side. I guess that's what had me thinking that it did match the Carmichael "E". Thanks so very much for all your detective work!

No problem. I see that the jersey already has a bidder. I hope that wasn't you.

Here's another photo of Dorsett in the blue jersey:

It may be just me, but the game photo seems to have thicker numbers than the Hunt Auctions exemplar.

Nope, not me! Thanks Slats.
