Hello. The website was recommended in helping with my jersey. Fill you all in on the story.

My buddy's great uncle was friends with a groundskeeper of the O's way back in the day. The groundskeeper gave the great uncle this jersey and has been in their family since. It was passed down to my buddy 2 years ago. He is not a collector so it just sat in the closet. He told me it was game worn and has paperwork stating such. (in process of unpacking from moving so paperwork will eventually be sent) I helped him land a job and as a thank you, he gave it to me. Just so happens, Brooks held a signing, Charm City 2, recently and i traveled up to have it signed. I asked Brooks if it was game worn or game issued. He looked it over, turned it over and back. He told me it is was one from the old days but at the moment he wasn't able to give me an answer whether or not it was game worn. So, i figured i would try and do my own research to validate. Here are some pics.

The partially destroyed tag in the collar would point towards a salesman's sample,, not a gamer.

The back, however, and the apparent flat cut tail on the jersey would date it to 1971. Early Rawlings knits had a flat cut tail, and the B. ROBINSON name on back on a knit would be unique to 1971 as (a) the O's began wearing knits that season and (b) the first initial would be needed as Frank Robinson was also there...he was dealt to the Dodgers during the 1971-72 offseason.

What you have there might be the salesman's sample that had it's design chosen by the Orioles for the then-newfangled knit uniforms. I've seen at least two Rawlings #5 home samples or prototypes in the past, but this is the first one also bearing (correctly) a name on back.

Appreciate it Dave. I wasn't banking on being game used. Now i'm curious to the paperwork that my buddy has and what it states and who it's from. Will update once i get it.
