Ok, so now I am concerned...

Many of my concerns buying a Deon Butler jersey were alleviated once I contacted the team and the equipment manager about the improper year tagging and a photo match of a crooked sewn over NFL shield was made available to me by a fellow member.

TODAY, the day after my jersey arrived, the same seller is pushing another Butler rookie jersey as game worn. I know for a fact from the Seahawks they sold a couple Butlers. So that does not concern me. What does is mine shows use and has a photo matched shield. This one looks spanking new and the cut and size are bigger: IE game issued. There is no way Butler, in the same year, went from a 40 to a 42! Plus the sellers even reveals this one has "little to no use". So, question: Did the 'Hawks misrepresent it to the seller and he believes somehow they were both game worn (which is essentially impossible IMO)? Or does he know one was worn, sold it and kept the issued one to get signed and THEN sell it as worn?

Either way it stinks and even if mine is the legitimate worn one (which I believe it to be) someone else is buying an issued jersey represented as worn. Judge for yourself below. Mine is the one auto'd with the incorrect 02 year tagging here:

Here is the one currently for sale (below):

Sorry, I meant mine was the one NOT auto'd with the incorrect 02 year tagging!

I can't really add much here since I own 1 NFL game used jersey, of course it's a Seahawks jersey but I'll post anyways.

I don't know the sizing in football and how much of a difference it would make but perhaps he was issued the size 42 with the proper year tagging from 09. Maybe didn't like it, felt it was too big, too easy to pull the fabric so he asked for a smaller size and got an old shirt from 02 and wore that more? I don't follow football much, did the style change any from 02 to 09?

We still won't know about the use/wear though and perhaps the 09 one does have light signs of wear and then again, it might not. One can't just rely on pictures alone.

I could also be completely wrong and further from the truth (please correct me if I am!) but I wouldn't think going down 1 size in the same year is too extreme. My concern is if it shows wear or not, the size wouldn't bother me too much.
Always looking for Seattle Mariners & anything of Felix Hernandez, Jay Buhner, Richie Sexson and Arthur Rhodes.

Yeah, going down (or up) a size for a small WR is actually a red flag and worth noting. I have two Bobby Engrams I bought up at the Pro Shop that are both size 42. I then got one from the Chiefs directly (sold to me as issued) and it was a 44. That's kind of what I feel the deal is here.

I agree with your assessment that the 09 one is bigger and the right year so probably issued and he opted for the smaller one, and they didn't have one that size so they recycled.

I agree with picts and seeing use, but he himself in the ad claims "little to no use shown". So there is that. The 'Hawks had no style changes in that time period either, BTW.

Football players, particular defenders, notoriously wear small jerseys to prevent opponents from grabbing them to impede the player.

            hey shipp,

i am happy you caught my photo match for your butler i posted.

happy i could help a fellow psu collector.

i see and understand what you are saying. i wanted to use the buy it now on that orginial butler but had a feeling with you being a big psu and seattle fan you would buy it.

now when i saw that second one posted i wanted to bid and still thinking of it but have the same concerns you listed. i did find these photos with the diffrent location of the nfl logo on the neck that might match up to the second what do you think, you see any with the diffrent nfl logo location matching the one they have listed now.

With all the Jo Sports going on right now, I really do not want to buy any of their stuff until something has been clarified. But thanks for offering again.

Shipp In 1994 the 49ers wore 4 different types of jersey- a home and away non throwback and a home and away throwback.

I have been extremely fortunate in that I was able to acquire all 4 styles for Bryant Young. What is interesting is that the shirts range in size from 48-52. One of the tags even has a size 52 flag but it has been crossed out and a 50 written on the Wilson swatch. All the shirts have team letters and are photo-matched so i know they are authentic.

So I suppose it is conceivable that Butler wore both a 40 and a 42 in the same season. He may have thought a 40 was too tight or a 42 too loose.

Similarly I have seen Jerry Rice gamers from 1995, range in size between 44-48, all with team letters.

Personally if I did not own the 4 Bryant Young gamers with such a size difference i would be as concerned as you are. Knowing that teams order many shirts, reuse and recycle jerseys and that players change size for a number of reasons, I give many gamers the benefit of the doubt before discrediting them (although with all this JO stuff going on who knows!!!).

If you want images of the different size tags of the BY jerseys please let me know. I have attached an image of the BY tag with the crossed out size as it is the only one I took a specific image of.

                    Hey Paul,

Thank you for writing and sharing your experience with the Niners and Bryant's ever changing size that season. Stories like your do help ease my concerns. I think my biggest issue was / is that they are both away jersey's from the same season. If one had been really damaged, I could see the size change justification because perhaps they ran out of his size. However it is plausible that he just felt one was either too lose or tight and made the switch as well. Had I personally bought them from the Pro Shop and seen them in my hands on the rack, I think I would feel better about it (because I am paranoid by nature as is). The fact the seller beat me to the punch with his purchase from the 'Hawks puts me in this guessing game mode.

The fact the team confirmed recent sell of multiple jerseys, the price they sold for and they were road Butlers helps alot and is why I love purchasing direct whenever possible (and with your mentioning of JO, possibly will from this point on). The simplest solution is to buy the other and "corner the market" on them. But my wife would most certainly kill me .

Plus, though I know the event he went to and have five Deon Butler signatures all acquired in person to compare with (there is little to no doubt that auto on their is real) it has been signed. Which goes into another paranoia I have of only owning in person autographs in my collection whenever possible (I think other than a Joe PA acquired GU jersey he signed from a Penn State Charity auction and my NFL auction signed cleats, all others have been acquired by me directly).
