I emailed JO Sports last Sunday and I didn't receive any reply to my concerns about this Robin Yount jersey they are selling.

I had a friend/customer emailing me asking about this jersey as they were interested in possibly buying it, but they wanted me to have it examined first. After quite a bit of homework and help from friends in the industry, I found some real concerns.

First off, the tagging for Sand-Knit has never been seen by Dave Miedema for a 1980's Sand-Knit gamer. Then the issue of the size raises a concern, as Yount wore size 40 until later in his career. I believe I found he didn't start wearing such large jerseys until the early 1990's.

I am also trying to see if anyone else has ever seen a 1981 Brewers playoff jersey with the playoff stitching in the tail.

Has anyone seen any similar jerseys to compare this one to help determine authenticity? I can't find anything positive about the jersey and I know JO Sports is one of the best for modern football, but what methods are they using to authenticate vintage baseball jerseys?

You can add this to the J.O. suspect list:

http://www.josportsco.com/photos/7791_1.jpg

Those letters look way off to me shorter and wider than they should be for 1985?? The numbers look funky too the look too wide. Maybe TNT could shed some light on this, I thought the Hernandez jerseys should have the condensed font for the name??

MetsFan and Lokee:

Right on both counts.

With the Hernandez Mets jersey, the embroidery font in the collar strip tag isn't even remotely close.

I know JO Sports has the best sources possible in current/recent NFL gamers, but their GU baseball acumen leaves much to be desired. Maybe they should hire me to assist them on baseball acquisitions...;)

Jerseys were taken down. Opened a trunk in our latest move to pull these jerseys out must have been years since I seen most of them. Back in the trunk they go. On another note I am close to listing a want ad for a Operations Manager to oversee the entire floor that must bring with him/her sales experience, industry knowledge, knowledge in autograph wholesaling (or willing to learn), and operations experience. If you are the man then you just may be hired. :)

I appauld JO for pulling these. However, what happens to baseball jerseys already sold that may raise similar issues?

We do not have any that sold that would have issues. Since we dug into the box of vintage baseball a week ago everything you see on our website is what was in the box plus another dozen jerseys that we put on our showroom floor.
Can Dave please email me we have about a half a dozen vintage baseball jerseys I will send to authenticate.

Dave is back in business! This is a very classy and honorable move on JO's part.

Everything looks to fresh for it to be game worn. That is just my opinion.

Did Scoreboard ever make Nolan Ryan jerseys? It looks like the stitching that was on my Canseco Scoreboard jersey.

Scoreboard did Ryan Jerseys, I just sold one. It was tagged 34-1992, also had a 1/2 inch extra sleeve length tag. It was a Russell Athletic signed on the front. I have photos of it but they are too large to upload. David

I can tell you without question this jersey is NOT Game Used - at least not in an OFFICIAL MLB Game.

Since his time with the Angels, Nolan had all of his jerseys CUSTOM made by Goodman & Sons - including his 1993 Gamers which are sequentially serial numbered in the tagging.

The Only Rawlings or Russell Gamers he worn during his tie with the Rangers was Spring Training and his Warm Up Jerseys (the Blue Pull Overs).

Check any picture you want of Nolan on a game from 1989 - 1993 and you will see there is NO sleeve logo (Rawlings or Russell).

I have seen a handful of pictures of Nolan in a Home White Rangers jersey pitching where you can see the Rawlings logo on the sleeve - the only issue is the Palm Trees in the background - from Florida during Spring Training in Port Charlotte. There were never any Palm Trees at Arlington Stadium.

Again, JO failed to do their due diligence in offering up this jersey.

I just want to say again the puprose of this thread was not to imply that JO is selling a bad jersey. I actually like Jarrod and I have never had anything but positive dealings with him. Further, I wasn't 100% certain that Ryan did or did not wear a non Goodman jersey while with the Rangers. This thread has been educational......

Guess this jersey needs to be put in the trunk also.

I'll put the post below, but the whole thread is more of the same as this thread:

I want to know why these threads all have to be put together. I think there should be individual threads on each jersey. If you put them all together like this someone might not see the jersey everyone is talking about at this time or in the past. What gives? Are trying to hide these jerseys or what??

Jamie,

Good question. In this case I decided to merge the threads because it was conclusive that the Ryan jersey was another autographed scoreboard jersey being passed off as game used from the same source (JO).

In the initial thread, someone mentioned a Hernandez jersey in the same thread about the Yount jersey that JO Sports had for sale that was also a Scoreboard Autographed Jersey. The results were JO pulling all these jerseys.

Other mlb jerseys in question from JO were not merged as their information and original source (not Scoreboard) are different (ie the Ellsbury thread)

There is no intention to hide information. If anything, it is to make very related information easier to access for our member. If members do not see this, then I would happy to divide the threads back again. If these threads were not merged, the Yount jersey and the other Scoreboard example would be even more hidden back as the thread has not had a reply in four months.

There is a separate thread on knowledge of Scoreboard Jersey. Technically, if I had merged it with that thread I could see your point.

I was hoping that if other Scoreboard jerseys are shown at JOs website
http://josportsco.com/list_products.asp?CatID=5000002&NewSearch=True
members would add to this thread. Dave, an active member here, could add more to this thread if this was the case. I hope this is beneficial to us members and if we are lucky the removal of these jerseys from public sales.

Just to add to the Ryan jersey, Nate Anderson has a GU jersey with Goodman tagging from '93.

I see the Nolan Ryan jersey is no longer on their website for sale.
