Hi all,
Just curious if anybody bought the supposed AS GU AJ's from the last auction for $21 Grand plus????? I'm very curious to hear who exactly "authenticated" these shoes.

The auction lot says that the autograph was authenticated by JSA. The shoes themselves weren't "authenticated" by anyone, but rather comes with an LOA from longtime UNC photographer, Robert Crawford.

The auction lot description says it all. Not saying this "authenticates" the shoes or gives any true provenance that the shoes ARE THE shoes worn in the all-star game. Personally, I never looked twice at these shoes as this LOA means as much to me as my used TP. But guess someone values the LOA at a price of 21k. LMAO

for what it's worth, I call BS on these shoes. as far as I know, every pair of AJ 1 issued to Mike had the following coding on the ankle (note the different sizes as well). The pair that sold is very clearly a retail pair.

Steve

Steve those are indisputably a "REAL pair of MJ AJ 1s (game issued) that I posted. I was also the previous owner of the MJ injury/strap pair of AJ1s which got a lot of press this spring, which Nike now owns.

Pics of those:

Ha. You too, huh?

Funny. They posted the pair on Facebook. I mentioned no player tagging and they deleted their post all together. They went on to mention them again on Facebook but I left it alone. Speaks volumes.

I generally don't trust auction houses knowledge of shoes. Mears sold a pair of 'Gary Payton' GU shoes sized 14.5. That's laughable.

Auction houses to eBay, self research reign supreme.

Since Mears isn't accepting PM's here you go.

http://www.mearsonlineauctions.com/LotDetail.aspx?lotid=5152

Not sold but mis-represnted nonetheless.

The green/white Ultraflights you linked me are legit. In fact, the buyer and I were just talking about them.

The shoes in that link are identified as an unknown player. What's the concern?

I believe if you need to contact MEARS they can be reached at:

info@mearsonlineauctions.com (info@mearsonlineauctions.com)

This address is found on their auction contact page.

Troy from Mears contacted me via PM. He said he was going to correct it. Thus, the listing as 'unknown player'. From Oct 09 to today they were labeled as 1993 Gary Payton game shoes.

So, you contacted them and they corrected the error. That is what the forum is all about. Everyone makes errors. Those who correct the errors are the good guys.

These shoes are 100% legit for a variety of reason. The most apparent is the WHITE tag on the tongue.

Thank you. I see that now, hadn't noticed it before. I'm still not convinced though. If $20K were at stake I could surely find a white tag to sew on a pair of AJ1's. We still don't have a reason why neither the TYPS ankle code or 13.5/13 sizing is present like every other pair of legit 85 gamers. But you say there is other evidence? Please share..

White tag, non-retail PE coding, vintage sigs. Don't discount these because they aren't TYPS - that is not the ONLY way to identify game worn Jordan I's. These are 100% authentic as advertised.

I'm still unclear on what you mean by the PE coding. Are we talking about the early production date?

I am not going to disclose what it is, but serious MJ sneaker collectors know.

You will see a coding pattern with every Air Jordan 1 retail shoe (and other models) that these and other PEs don't match. That's the best I can do.

The difference between Jan-Feb, Feb-April and the later dated Aug-Nov? Thats the only coding discrepancy I spot.

Same here.

I'm curious why you wouldn't want to enlighten fellow collectors with knowledge we obviously are deficient of? I thought the guiding principle of this forum was to help other collectors better understand the hobby..

LOL. Well played.

There was an enlightening and entertaining thread on NT that went deep into exposing high-end Jordan counterfeiting. I don't see anything here that we don't already know (or has been posted elsewhere).

Hi all,
I've been out of town for a few days, but just read up on the new posts. mmonte4, where did you get your information on the legitimacy of these shoes in question and can you please explain more in-depth? I will pose this subject to a good friend of mine, who is high up in Nike and who I am good friends with from Michael's basketball camp here in Vegas. I will also ask Michael's Mother, Deloris, to ask MJ himself if he remembers anyone by that name on the auction and the sequence of events that are claimed. They sound to be very unique, so I would thik MJ would remember something to that effect occuring. The sig looks pretty good on those shoes, but anyone can have MJ sign a pair of store-bought AJ's when they see him around at say, a golf tourney in Tahoe, or somewhere else for that matter. This is peaking my interest to see if these are truly as they were described and marketed.
