    I'll preface this by saying that I can't guarantee it's complete effectiveness or safety on all types of inks/football leathers (too many variables there)

    Take some saddle soap (you can pick up a tin in the shoe care section of just about any store) and a LIGHTLY dampened rag. Work the soap into a lather with the rag, then rub at the pen (circular motion will likely work best). Wipe off and repeat as needed.

    You may be at it for a while, and this may dull and darken the surface of the leather slightly, but I've had good results with this on non-GU balls that I just toss around. That said, I've heard tell of saddle soap and other wax-containing leather products being detrimental to the long-term condition of a football as it seals the pores of the leather. I'll leave it up to your better judgement.
