People remember Mantle running down Gil Hodges long drive to center field to save Larsen's perfect game. But as stated above, they forget that Carey got his glove on a ball at 3rd that then bounced to McDougald at shortstop who threw out Robinson at first. That is such an unusual play that I'm surprised it isn't better known. Maybe it is somewhat forgotten because it was early in the game and its importance wasn't realized until later.

Sorry to hear the news. One of my hometown's better known ballplayers. Playing for the Yankees in the 50's, it probably doesn't get much better then that. Another old-timer ballplayer from Alameda who lives in SoCal that I had been in touch with prior to our exhibit mentioned that Carey wasn't in good health.
