That is a great looking helmet. I'm curious as to what this Saints helmet is (linked below, just sold on ebay) compared to the recent Mears example (1969 one-game black version), the one on Mears recently went for over $6K and had a lot more wear, I don't know anything about helmets so I stayed away from it but the seller seems to produce retro "thin" helmet decals and they looked pretty pristine, also the engravings on the rear of the helmet differ to the Mears.

yeah, that vintage niners helmet was a true beauty, although i think the seller got the date wrong (1961) - iirc the niners didn't sport side decals until 1962 and only wore that particular style for just a few years or so.

as far as the ebay saints helmet is concerned, i posted about it on another thread before i saw this discussion - anyway it's a fake put together by ebay's biggest producer of fake vintage "gamers" (flpsyr). hopefully he'll get shut down some day...
