Are there any from the 1920s 30s?

There are 36 orders documented as having been shipped to Hornsby between 4/28/20 and 9/19/29. Of those orders, approximately 25 orders can be established at a length of 35 inches, as referenced to diagrammed index bats annotated as "His Hornsby" and "His Reg(ular) Hornsby." Weights for the period ranged between 36 and 40 ounces.

Records for the remainder of his career, through 7/20/37, show an additional 45 or so orders that, as they were recorded on Hornsby's individual bat cards , show consistent lengths of 35 inches and weights between 35 ounces and 37 ounces until some orders in 1937 that were of lesser weight, between 32 ounces and 34 ounces.

Post-career (non-game used) orders between 1938 and and 1953 document some shipments that were 36 inches in length. Several post- career orders between 1962 and 1972 are documented at 34.5 inches and 34 inches (Model H117).

Good Luck.

Thanks Mike,

I have seen a few side-written or auto'd 36inch, but I was just curious if (to known records) if he went away from his typical 35-36...

Hi Justin--

There is no documented evidence of that until his post- career, however , as can be seen from the previous post, not every pre-1930 shipment is specific as to length. It seems clear that his established pattern put his normal length at 35 inches. The first documented 36 inch shipment was on 7/2/38, then again on 3/24/42, then (all model H117) in 1948 , 1949, 1953, and 1956. A documented order of 34.5 inch model H117 was shipped in 1962, and documented orders of 34 inch model H117 in 1968 and 1972.

Good Luck
