How to date a game used batting helmet

Anyone out there know how to narrow down a date for rawlings game used MLB batting helmets ? Not sure if there are specific codes/stamps I should be looking for.

Seriously, does it have the wheel inside of it? Or on the newer helmets there should be a date on the outside bottom where the MLB Players Logo is. The date could be covered by the logo.

I will post a pic later, search the forum, this has been discussed before.
