    Stolen 2004 WS ring

FoxSports.com reported today that pitcher Derek Lowe had his 2004 World Series ring (Red Sox) and another trophy stolen from his residence in Florida. His housekeeper noticed and reported the thefts last Friday.

That's too bad, Dave. Hopefully, they can make up another for Lowe, or better yet, find the original.

I'd hate to think it but what if it were the housekeeper?

Something like that I'd almost be inclined to store somewhere where there's no way anyone could get to it unless they just "knew" where it was.

Unfortunately, interest in artifacts is such they might be taken either by collectors, or by persons who assume they'll be worth a lot to collectors. When the South Carolina Gamecocks won the 2010 College World Series , the Championship flag was stolen by someone climbing the stadium wall about four months later. It has never been found, though it has been replaced now with one for both the 2010 and 2011 Championships. (The new flag is taken inside at night). Their Runner-up trophy for the 2002 College World Series also disappeared and was never found.

Don't most rings like that have the player's name on it (or engraved)? Seems like it would at least be easier to track down than, say, a stolen car stereo...

Unless they were stolen by a big Derek Lowe fan who would never try to sell them!
