    Question about A-Rod Game-Used Bat

    Guys,

I have an A-Rod bat that was given to me by one of the equipment managers from the Rangers when they played the Blue Jays in Puerto Rico in 2001.

Of course, he said it was game used and looks to be.

Since my collection is minor-league baseball jerseys, bats are kind of out of my realm.

On the back of the bat, the is a ruler-sized shaving of the bay missing. It almost looks to me like someone (or something) broke off an uneven oval-sized piece of the bat.

Most of the time when I see a cracked bat, it is usually cracked on the barrell or in the handle. This is just an oddity to me. The only other bat that I have that has a more odd story is the Carlos Beltran-Kansas City Royals bat that has his first name spelled "Carlo".

Anyone have an takes on what this might be.

    Thanks.

I certainly don't hold myself out as an expert, but one possible explanation is the bat was being swung, perhaps in the clubhouse or doughout and hit something and knocked a small area off. If it barely clipped a hard object what you show on the bat might have resulted. If that had happend ARod would have no longer had a use for the bat and maybe that's how the employee got it.
