Chicago Cardinals roster with numbers

I have a Chicago Cardinals football jersey from the late 40's or early 50's that I would like to figure out who wore it. Does anyone know where I can find the Cardinals roster with player numbers?

Contrary to popular logic, the team was not named after the beautiful bird but instead because the team played in used maroon jerseys the original team (in pre-NFL years) had purchased from the University of Chicago. When an observer scoffed that the jerseys were “faded red,” team owner Chris O’Brien countered that they weren’t “faded red,” they were “Cardinal red.”

Jim,

I looked Groom up in my Total Football and see that he played from 51-55 for the Cardinals. The jersey is a Sand-Knit size 40, not a big guy. The numerals on my jersey are not quite as big. The square in the bottom of the 5 is about half as big as the 5's in the 47 picture. I'll take a digital of the tag tomorrow and see if the tag can be dated.

Here is the Sand Knit tag and the back of the jersey. Any ideas on the year?

The Sand Knit tag is from 1953 or earlier. In 1953 Sand Knit moved from Chicago to Berlin, WI.

I thought I had already posted it but had only described the front font. Here is the front of the jersey. Any help finding a font like his would be appreciated. I only have a few team card which have een of no help. Thanks for the info to date.
