Would be most appreciative if any members (or lurkers) who own Julius Erving game jerseys, trunks or warmups could let me know the sizes of each piece. I know of two members that own warmups. *nudge*

For jerseys, I'm most interested in the sizes for 1976-77, 1977-78 & 1986-87, but any/all info would be great. I've tried asking the equipment mgr. and I've tried asking Erving too. Now I'm asking the collectors :)

I have 2 sets of Julius Erving warm ups- One Blue and One White

The Blue ones (from 83-84) are tagged as follows
Top has Wilson and Pearson tags and has the following size tags 42 83 6 (these are not written in, they're sewn numbers)
Bottoms is tagged Wilson 34 83 6

The White ones (from 83-84) are tagged as follows
Top has Wilson and Pearson tags and has the following size tags 42 83 6
(these are not written in, they're sewn numbers)
Bottoms are tagged 34 83 6

Hope this helps

Thanks Eric!

So they both are the same style as the one pictured below? No fold down collar...no notch in the sleeves.

Did you at one time own an older Doc warmup...from the late 70s? I thought you mentioned that once.

It is the style of the Dr. J in that photo.

Don't know what you're remembering with the '80s Erving. These are the only two ones I have/have ever had.

I did have a problem with the Lampson letter on the white one. It's tagged 83, which means it's from 83-84 but Mr. Lampson wrote it up at being from the 82-83 championship season. Could you be thinking of that?

Bill,

Yeah, I saw that one too.

Wondered if it was the same warmup as the one below.

It sure looks like it, especially on the pants tag. So AM brought in more than Lelands, that is interesting. Do you find that one particular company brings higher prices than the other....the last Grey Flannel (at the Basketball HOF) seemed to get the best prices I have seen on hoops items especially.

The final price for the Erving ABA Nets jersey was unreal.

I've never owned any Erving game jerseys, so all my research has to be based on photos. But, you can't see the tags in the photos, so I try to keep track (somewhat) of what items are listed with the major auction houses. Lately, GFC seems to be getting some good prices, IMO. In the most recent GFC auction a Doc 85-86 jersey/shorts combo went for $12,523. Yet another 85-86 Erving jersey went for 6,115.90 at Lelands in Dec. 2005. The GFC jersey was signed and had the shorts as well, but I wouldn't have guessed that those two additions would double the price.

But then you'll see something like these shoes at AMI. I saw a pair of leather Chucks go for over $500 on eBay a few months back. We're talking regular retail shoes, worn by no one. So why would " Dr. J Game-Worn A.B.A. Shoes" go for only $100 more? Well, IMO Erving ABA game shoes would be impossible to authenticate. And...I've never seen Erving wear lowcuts in a pro game.

I'm interested to see what this item goes for. It would have to be from his last season (86-87) not his second last, because that is the only season he wore Sand-Knit. I emailed a dealer familiar with Sixers jerseys and asked when the Sixers started using the pullovers. He thought 87-88, the year after Erving retired. Can't say it's not legit, I just can't find any photographic evidence to support the claim. Here's a photo of Doc in his 86-87 home warmups (http://i.cnn.net/si/si_online/covers/images/1987/0504_large.jpg). Would love to see a pic of him in the pullover...then I might bid :)

I have a good question for you. I have been looking at Dr J shoes seems to be some pop up every once in a while. Were the High top shoes with DR J stamped on the side ever made for retail?? I see these and assume they are only player issued, but you comments about $500 retail shoes makes me think I am incorrect in my thinking.

Any advise on what to look for on authentic game Dr J's?

The white Converse (red trim) with the small DRJ stamp on the outside of the shoes...I think those were only issued to Erving. I've seen some other NBA game shoes where the player had their own stamp as well. His NBA Converse were also a pretty tall shoe. I've got a pic of Erving being defended by 'Nique. They are both wearing the same style Converse, but you can see that Doc's are a "higher" hightop.

I honestly have no idea how one would authenticate any of the shoes Erving wore in the ABA. I don't think the DRJ stamp was added until after he joined the NBA (on the Converse), so all you could go on would be the size...and the "impeccable source".

Here's a rudimentary Dr. J. shoe timeline

http://www.geocities.com/otismalibu/shoetimeline.html

The shoe he wore for his very last season was offered in a retail version. I remember seeing them in the Sears catalog. But even if you could find his size in the retail offering, I don't think it would be too hard to see the difference between it and an actual game shoe from his final season.

Most all the Erving game shoes I see up for auction have the DRJ stamp. Without that, I don't know how you could ever know for certain who wore (or was issued) the shoes.
