I saw this item in their most recent catalog and got pretty excited because Tony Gwynn is my favorite player, former or current. I did a little research and found several prior auctions where similar Gwynn award bats were auctioned off but were noted as copies of the original/actual award. The only time they were not noted as such was for a couple on Heritage Auctions, and those were questioned on this forum.

I have written a couple emails to Legendary to alert them to the possibility that the bat is a copy (which in turn would, in my opinion not support a value estimate of $8,000-$10,000).

I did not and do not make any claim as to authenticity, but rather note it is something to be considered and/or further investigated.

I am only posting this here because I have not received a response from Legendary; not even a confirmation of receipt. I therefore want other potential bidders to be aware of the matter.

I also just found a prior Legendary auction where they subsequently added to a description to a 1986 Tony Gwynn silver bat auction:

Please Note: It has come to our attention that Tony Gwynn requested and obtained more than one Louisville Slugger Silver Slugger Bat Award to commemorate his hitting achievements in 1996. Accordingly, we wish to disclose that while the offered piece is a genuine award bestowed upon Gwynn, as represented, it is not the only one of its kind extant.
