Miami Dolphins helmet question

I just recently acquired a supposed Miami Dolphins team issued helmet from the 1996 season. The helmet is painted some kind of metallic white. This does not seem correct to me. Does anyone know if the Dolphins painted their helmets metallic white in 1996?
