    Steelers 2005 Font Question

I have a question for those who may know more than I do in the area of Pittsburgh Steelers jerseys.

Pro Sports Investments is currently selling a 2005 Willie Parker Steelers jersey (tagged 05-48). Here's a pic. Notice the font on the nameplate. Looks like the typical Steelers font

However, Historic Auctions sold a 2005 Willie Parker Steelers jersey (with a COA written by the same seller as the one on ebay) and the font looks different and sold for $2145 (tagged 05-46).

I know there can be variations between jerseys- can someone tell me where to find pics of Steeler 2005 jerseys with each font?
    Thanks

I've watched every Steelers game during the FWP era and I don't ever recall seeing him wear any font other than the style at the top of your post.

    Here's a pic from pre-season 2005

Steelers have never used a thin cheesy font as shown in the second photo. The font has been pretty much just like the first one shown since the switch to the current numbe style in '97. Sleeves on the second one look odd to. Looks like someone just messed with an off the shelf reebok authentic. But they NEVER wore a font like that second one. Period.

          eric,

perhaps the seller has some insight into the differences.

on the other hand, i'll wager any response will be along the lines of "i don't have time to look at fonts/there's nothing conclusive in this hobby/this hobby is full of crazy things/you can't prove he never wore it".

I didn't think the Pittsburgh Steelers parted with any game used stuff? I haven't seen anything game used from the current players.

Well considering the card companies get jersey's to cut up, i'd say they part with them somehow. Perhaps, as the companies byline indicates, they got a hold of a couple players and asked for some jerseys and wound up getting them. I don't think as a team they tell the players they can't give someone a jersey if they choose to, or sell, or whatever. There are teams who sell game used jerseys. I guess they consider it a revenue source or something. The steelers don't participate in that facet of things, obviously. However, unless they stick some clause in their contracts, I think the players likely can keep their jersey's and do what they want with them. I can't imagine them doing anything to the contrary. Can you imagine if it were true? If the did prohibit players for giving away jerseys? The team that made giving a jersey away famous (mean joe coke commercial) banning players for giving away jerseys?

As for the card companies, I suppose the NFL could mandate that teams have to give them jersey's but i sure hope not. I may be new here, but i'm fairly sure everyone here abhors the fact they cut up gamers for cards. I know I do.

I have looked at the Pittsburgh Post Gazette Website and went through the 2005 Regular season where Willie Parker would have worn the black jersey...each photos I referenced shows that Parker has his sleeves custom hemmed; with some the sleeve striping being removed. Here are some photos documenting this...

Now on a positive note, I did find the same picture listed in a previous post (Roethlisberger handing off to Parker), where Parker has similar sleeves to the jersey being auctioned on EBAY now, however, this is a 2005 pre-season game....hope this helps someone...

                  Her We Go!

                  Guys,
Good evening. I would like to add that I received a very convincing "Authentic" Reebok on Ebay (not game used) of the $50-75 range. Althought it was one of the better quality knockoff (great for tailgating in) it also had the same font style. Even the top quality knock-offs are not even close to the actual Reebok authentic. Almost every detail on the jerseys is very similar but slightly different.

I'd bet that the jersey itself isn't even an authentic Reebok.
                  Good luck,
                  Marty Wallack

Big Ben had a thinner lettering on his jersey last night.

Here's the more familiar Steelers font.

It appears that PSI's Parker jersey that was orginally listed on Ebay has re-appeared on Ebay from a different sellter....

I personally had no interest in it the 1st time, nor this time as the jersey doesn't have the proper customizations I saw Parker wear during the 2005 NFL regular season...
