Got my first glove today and also checked off the top of my grail list. Chris Sale Glove from 2012. Shows lots of wear in the pocket.

In theory, they should hold signatures better than brand new balls. The reason is game used balls are rubbed down by umpires before the game. Add to that the scuffs that occur during the game, and most of the shiny coating is worn away. Additionally, the worn leather (of a game used baseball) might do a better job of absorbing/adhering the inks to begin with.

By contrast, a retail ball (basically, the majority of OMLB, OAL, ONL balls) would have whatever surface the balls are treated with. Also, being a new leather surface, it's possible that the leather will take longer to absorb the inks. That could lead to smearing or fading over time.
Sweet sale glove! Don't know yet if I want to get into game used baseballs, I guess I just like the look of nice clean baseballs signed on the sweet spot lol if anything I could see myself maybe getting a used signed baseball if it's an actual hit or strikeout or something but not just a random used batting practice signed ball

$350 unsigned but it was style matched to a photo of Contreras as it was dumping on his head.

Really excited to add my first Jim Abbott jersey to my collection. With his limited number of home starts in 1995 pictures were hard to come by and I'm fairly confident that I was able to match it to the three pics posted below. If any White Sox collectors have pics that may be higher res or closer I'd love the assistance. Based on what the seller mentioned and what I was able to find researching this jersey it appears that Jim wore three different pinstripe jerseys that year....a Russell, another Wilson and this Wilson.

Nice. I picked the bottle up for 175 with a Coa from Timo Perez. Being its team signed what do you think it's worth?

I picked up some Jose Abreu balls from his first HR game April 8 in Colorado. It was also his first Multi HR game. I bought all 5 they had hoping to get one authenticated to his first HR at bat. Luckily i did now i need to watch the game and see where it was in the pitch sequence. I also picked up a Avisail Garcia ball from the night before. The Abreu ball is from the 7th inning and it was a foul to the screen.

Picked up some Abreu balls from his record breaking game on April 27th. None were authenticated to any of his at bats which sucks but you cant win them all. Also one ball was not authenticated so I am sending it back and selling one. One ball was authenticated to Scott Carroll who got his first career win that day but I think I am keeping the David Price ball. Still not sure. Now all I need to add is a debut ball.

I have lots of new additions from this weekend but I am going to start with my Avisail Garcia bat. This was the only one they had and I only obtained it because I asked the guy. They wanted $200 I asked if he could cut it in half since it was in 2 pieces. I ended up getting it for $100. I was buying either way so I guess it pays to ask. It has two authentication stickers and is authenticated to opening day. The bat guy at the garage sale said this is the only bat they have had of his so not sure if he is making a deal with someone for his memorabilia so stay tuned on that.

Its mlb authenticated to the day he left when he had his child so hopefully I can match it to some games before then. I am lucky now that I own the only 2 jerseys the White Sox have sold of his and the other is a bp. Hopefully next year the 83' jersey will show itself.

Daniel Webb's Halfway to St. Patty's Day jersey from 2013 and it turns out he got his first career strikeout in this jersey. I might end up selling this to pay for the Dunn Items I picked up but I am still not sure. I really wanted to get the Sale green jersey but $1500 for a jersey he didnt even pitch in is a little to much for me.

I think i need to renew my membership but sometimes i forgot to check the site before its to late. anytime one pops up that would be great if you can keep me posted. Im hoping Avisail will do another one at the end of the season. Chris Sale is really cool about the inscriptions. He also is very knowledgable about his items. He turned away from inscribing a 72' jersey game used because he said he never wore it. He new due to the cool base under the arms of the jersey and he said they never got to wear that styleon the retro jerseys even though most players would prefer it.

I was planning on heading over there. I waited 90 minutes to get into the last garage sale at the park -- from those that have been to this December sale before do you expect the same type of lines? I would plan on getting there around 10 when they open.

Anyone buy anything at today's garage sale? How much were the stadium seats?

salukidave
12-06-2014, 05:57 PM
Seats were $200 a pop and sold out. Game-used stuff was largely leftover stuff from the Soxfest Garage Sale and in-season Yard Sale. I did pick up a pair of Baines spikes for $30. I don't think they realized they were his.

This was a pretty good sale for oddball stuff, however. Tons of autograph balls for $5 and autographed pictures for $2. Also picked up a signed 2007 team ball for $30.

They had 2 jerseys from Abreu and one was a bust. They were 2K. It was a size 42 store authentic! I let them know about it and they took it out. It was authenticated as team issued. The other was the JR jersey. There was a guy holding on to it not sure if he ended up buying. I talked to him about it and he was on the fence. He also was holding on to the Thome for $1250. I found a bargain, a Buehrle for $300. I also picked up 6 Dunn bats one I believe might be an Abreu. I also picked up Dunn's 14' JR jersey. He hit a pinch hit 3 run HR. I went back in and was going to buy a Phegly bat I discovered was his 4 th career hr bat for $50 but didn't feel like waiting an hour. The guys selling the bats told me that Abreu took most his bats with him and they would have a few at Soxfest. They also let me know that eaton doesn't break many bats so there will only be a few of those along with Avisail who has a deal to sell his gear. They had a large rack of $10 jerseys most spring training and bp.

Does anyone here know how/where I can buy a weekend pass to Soxfest without buying the hotel package? And I don't mean a Saturday or Sunday pass, because I just want to check the garage sale on Friday.

Since I'm not looking for any high end item, the hotel package cost would make any purchase I make at the garage sale likely be more than double the price I might pay for the item(s). In fact the last few garage sales I attended, there was hardly anything from Rienzo to buy. Maybe since he was traded, will they put out for sale whatever they have left?

01-04-2015, 12:15 PM

esigs let me know what you are looking for I think I saw a Rienzo jersey at the garage sale.

I'm looking for any GU/GI items, which for Rienzo probably means jerseys, pants, nameplate, and maybe hats, which I haven't found one yet. I only picked up two items during this past holiday sale: a 2013 GI home jersey, and a GI locker nameplate. I think he kept some of his jerseys/hats, or the team is really slow in releasing his items, because in the past 4 garage sales, I only found issued jerseys, with the exception of the St. Patrick's day jersey/pants that were GU.

Someone I met at the previous sales said he is going to keep an eye for jerseys. If you are willing to pick up anything else you may find, I would really appreciate it.

I picked up just a few things. I collect cleats and bat and found the selection to be pretty thin....

I grabbed an Adam Eaton Phoenix bat. MLB authenticated, broken against Core Kluber on April 13th, 2014.

Also picked up a pair of Conor Gillaspie UA cleats, and Alex Rios Nike cleats, both of which I was able to style match.

Grabbed some autograph baseballs I didn't have in my collection. Matt Davidson and Andre Reinzo, both MLB authenticated, $5 each.

Any chance you would sell or trade the Eaton bat.

Picked up this Chris Sale Salem Winston Salem Jersey the other day. The Coa has it listed as a bp jersey but it also says it was worn in game action. I have also found a photo of the team wearing them in games and attatched a pic of Sale wearing #14.

Lucked into this Abreu gamer at the garage sale after I pulled it from a packed box not yet on display. Has Abreu's custom tape job and shows great use. Considering what Abreu gamers sell for this was a historic find. Open to trades on this for Cubs items since I am more of a Cubs collector -- I collect Rizzo, Grace, Sosa, Wood & Prior. Debating whether to throw onto eBay or cosign to Goldin Auctions so it gets into a nice White Sox collection.

Should be an easy photomatch with mlb.tv.

Thanks again to member Helf35 for getting me a weekend pass!

Bought one of the Abreu/Dunn bats, too, when the sale opened Friday afternoon. Might looks just like the one pictured above with a couple differences. Mine does not have a hologram sticker, which I'm actually glad about as I just don't like where they're placed on a bat, and the 79 sticker on the knob can be seen in all its glory.

Unfortunately, two people were let into the sale early and scarfed up all the other Abreu bats along with all of the Konerko bats and a big pile of prime stuff. I'm extremely pissed about it.

I lucked into mine from a packed box at around 7:30pm after I waited two hours for Abreu's autograph. My find was 100% luck. I wanted to get Abreu's autograph first and also give the collector that had gotten me a weekend pass time to go through the garage sale (he bought, I think, five Dunn gamers). I did not plan on even buying anything at the garage sale but found that Abreu, and also the prices were unlike I've seen at previous garage sales so I also picked up a Dunn and Semien for my collection. By the time I made it to the garage sale all the collectors had been through the garage sale and grabbed everything they liked.

A big thanks to member helf35 for picking up this 2014 Alternate jersey for me at Soxfest this weekend! The jersey is authenticated as issued, which makes sense, since he ended the season in AAA, but there are loose threads & the wash tag was washed. Wash tag definitely looks used and set 1, would be shocked if that wasn't used. Authenticator may have collected it after he left the team so it was listed as issued

Once I saw the set number and then the wash tag I was pretty sure it was used multiple times. He appeared in 18 games last season and it looks like it has seen multiple washes. Ap images shows about 3 games with the Alternate.

He started 11 games and had 7 relief appearances. I know he wore the black alternate on 5/20/14 @KC and on 6/15/14 vs KC. Do you know which was the third game he wore the black?

The other question I have is about the Father's Day ribbon; was it sewn on and taken off after the 6/15/14 game?

The back of the jersey appears to line up well to the 6/15/14 game, specially the MLB logo in relation to the "E" and "N". Also, the spacing between the "R" to "6" and "O" to "4" seems to be the same.

Here is part of my haul from soxfest. Got a few suprises and steals. Missed out on the Abreu bats though. I was first in line for the Avisail and Eaton signing but Avi was 20 min late and put me behind on the garage sale. Next year I am going there first. The jersey's are Erik Johnson 83' Adam Dunn Alternate, Chris Sale JR day jersey and I also picked up a Mark Buehrle which I haven't taken a picture yet. The Phegley bag was a life saver since I took the train and was able to fit all 18 bats and equipment I purchased. It was a steal at $30. Bats were all priced well this year so hopefully that's a trend that continues. I did get the Sale jersey for a great price due to the extra zero's at the end being close together so I ended up with a much cheaper deal then it was originally priced. Also the red cleats are Dunn's from the 2012 season when they wore the 72' style jerseys. I also bought a few more bats on Sunday not pictured but the Gillespie bat in the middle has to be my favorite, its uncracked and has the new style grip tape with tons of tar and ball marks. The one dunn bat was actually used by Avisail Garcia so I will work on the matches soon. I think everyone on the White Sox has used a Dunner bat during some point in the season. I even seen a Garcia bat that was used by Paulie up on ebay.

Over the last couple years they have been $100. I paid that for my 12' and my 13' Chris Sale JR Jerseys. Honestly to me it looked to be a grand but the numbers ran together to I took it up front for them to double check. There were two ladies sitting up there and both of them looked at it and charged me $100. I had also bought 5 13' JR jerseys the year before all for $100 a piece. FYI, I bought a black Quintana Set 1 jersey that was only hologramed as "game issued" and it was obviously used a lot. At least last year, I don't believe an authenticator was at all White Sox home games and I noticed a few times that the authenticator left early when he was there. What probably happened was an authenticator was not at the end of the game when they last wore the black alternates so all of those jerseys received a "game issued" designation.

I signed up for the site just to remark at this comment. I'm really blown away nobody else has called you on this. So you're saying that you basically stole $900 from the White Sox and Sox Charities by trying to pass off this jersey as $100 instead of $1000? And I damn well know that Sale's jerseys last year and the year before were not $100 either. Shame on you, man. That's basically stealing.

I won't even get into your game with the Dunn bats. Last time I checked, you had seven (7) Dunn bats on Ebay. So, basically you're going in and buying every Dunn bat you can find hoping Abreu used it, and then when you find out he didn't you dump the bat on Ebay.

They were $100 last year. I purchased Sales, Viciedo, Ventura, Alexei all for $100 a piece. The year before I purchased the Sale 72' JR jersey for $125 at the holiday clubhouse sale and it was from his 2 career start not just some jersey he wore. Steal? I stole nothing I asked a question then paid for it. I am buying the Dunn bats to photo match home runs not looking for Abreu. I'm not making a profit on the Dunns. I paid $100 for the majority at the Holiday sale and have sold them for $120-$140. I even paid $150 for some and lost money. Ebay fees I'm lucky to break even. Profit is not why I do it unless you strike gold with an Abreu first career hit your not making any. I have always been a Dunn fan and have a very large collection of his and I continue to collect.

You completely avoided the question on the Sale jersey. That Sale jersey was $1000, and you played some kind of game with the unsuspecting, unknowing lady at the counter. I'm all for people making a good deal, but clearly the lady at the counter didn't know and wasn't prepared. She didn't know what you had. You knew what you had. The guys marking the prices knew what they had. You probably went up there with another jersey that did say $100, and you tried to get both for $100 instead of paying the Sox and WHITE SOX CHARITIES the rightful $1000 for the Sale jersey. That's just shameful and disgusting. And to come on here and make a statement about it, almost half boasting and half apologizing? Clearly you've got some bad feelings going on inside, and that's a shame. The money goes to a good cause, so I'm not sure why you'd try to rip off the Sox on something like that. Lots of scumbags in this hobby unfortunately.

Lots of backtracking going on, but this is the original post. Someone else called you out on it, but now it's the excuse game ("the ladies at the counter checked it"). You knew what you had, just like you posted here in the first post. You were so excited that you ripped off White Sox Charities that you couldn't wait to get here and tell everyone you stole a Chris Sale jersey $900 less than what it was actually marked. Those words above are your words, nobody else's. You have to live with yourself.

You were bragging that you got it for a "great price"...but now you backtrack and claim it was supposed to be $100.

Like I said, it sucks since this money is supposed to go to White Sox Charities. I dont know how some people operate by stealing like this and having that on your conscience. It must be a sickness.

I had a similar situation on an Eaton jersey I bought at the Friday night garage sale at Soxfest. I found an Eaton jersey with heavy wear that had a hologram that said "game issued" when I looked it up on my phone. It was clearly worn. The other funny part of the hologram info said it was issued to EASTON. I bought it anyway, its an Eaton gamer, mlb authenticators are not perfect....

Thanks, Chris. I love pullover jerseys in general, so I was really hoping to get Rienzo's 1983 jersey, which a fellow collector was able to get it for me.

He started two games when they wore this style: May 25 and 31. Here are pictures of him pitching in both games. Would love to add his pants if you see them at the next Sox garage sales... :D

Not a sox bat but picked up a Mothers Day bat from Melky Cabrera. Its only game ready as he was using Marucci bats at the time and Louisville Slugger were the only ones to make the pink bats during that time frame.

I also saw a pair of gray New Balance athletic shoes last December, but it didn't have any player number or ID on them. Did the ones you saw have any number or other identification?

Do you know if the 2014 helmets were sold during Soxfest?

I was negotiating a price for them then they suddenly sold. A week later they ended up on my door step because my brother had gotten them for me. I think I would have gotten them cheaper but either way they are in my collection now. They are both MLB authenticated to the same game but the pants are set 2 and the jersey is set 3. I never wanted any pants in my collection but these 83' uni's fit together pretty well.

I really like them but like I said, pretty sure they're not used since they're long pants and wouldn't really want to pay more than like 50$. I spent 100 on my avi 2013 short white pinstripe pants and they were actually game used and the only ones he used in those two months. I really like the sanchez 83 pants on eBay , I like him a lot, just haven't wanted to pull the trigger on them for 50 yet

You are putting together a nice clear collection! I actually want a pair of the 83' to alter and wear for softball but I don't want to thrash the Dunns and they are probably the only ones that will fit me. I have never wanted to put together a full uniform so the pants never appealed to me but the 83' do look nice together due to the number on the pants. I made an offer on the Avisail pants to pair with the bp and the slim chance I can pick up a jersey at one of the Sales but I have never seen a star player for sale yet. Dunn has to be the best player I have seen available so far.

I was gonna bid on that but it went for more than I thought lol he's having a great spring, looks like he can be a dynamic player, his speed is something special. As long as he stays heathy, he's going to be the starting second baseman out of ST imo. I really hope they find a spot for sanchez on the team too

I picked this up at a recent estate sale. It's a jersey from the original Turn-Back-The-Clock game held in 1990. It's a jersey that was made for journeyman reliever Bill Long, who was actually traded earlier in the season so it's not game-used, but I'm nevertheless thrilled to acquire it because of its significance as the first TBC jersey. It came with pants and the hat. I'm not sure how many complete uniforms of this one are out there. Plus this one isn't signed (my personal preference) since Long wasn't around at the time. The jerseys of this kind I've seen have been signed.

I've always liked this uniform style. Be aware, though, that an identical counterpart of this may well be out there. Because this TBTC game was such an event, the team issued 2 jerseys to each player, one of which they wore and either of which they could keep. Of course, Long was sent packing to the Cubs prior to this game, so, in his case, neither was worn and, with him being gone, neither was likley kept. Stll a marvelous item.

Thanks for the info, Dave. It's good to know. Ideally I'd like to someday pick up one of these jerseys of a main player, but I just haven't seen many available over the years -- even with two of each out there. I think people tend to keep them because they do look cool. This was one of my better finds. I paid $45.

Also, when the Sox auctioned them c. 1991-92, they did like they did for the Old Comiskey seats pricing them very steep for the era, as Sox management at the time had a phobia about the hobby market profiting off items they sold. The exemplars that got into the hobby after the auction were priced in the neighborhood of $1,000 each....I think that was full uniform.

I ran into a longtime Sox employee today and he told me most jerseys that were sold were signed and that the organization kept only one -- that of pitching coach Dave LaRoche (the dad of current first baseman Adam LaRoche).

Every once in a while, a player will leave the Diamondbacks system and I find myself still collecting his "other team" stuff - either because he really impressed me as a player, or because I had a chance to interact with him when he was here and I was impressed with him as a person. Adam Eaton and Matt Davidson are a couple of good examples. Along with providing me with more than two dozen DBacks bats a couple of weeks ago, my Cactus League source got me a nice black Davidson Rawlings from this last spring. Maybe next year, the White Sox will come to Arizona for interleague play, Matt will be on the roster and I'll be able to get it signed.

One of the worst Garage Sales ever. Lots of stuff, but not a lot that was any good. Virtually nothing available from any player of note. I think that's probably going to be the case in the future, too. The team is selling most of its good stuff in auctions at the park and online.

I did pick up a couple of odds bats (Baines fungo and Bevington '96 All-Star Game) along with a piece of foul pole from Comiskey Park.

I was at the front of the line so I saw what was available when it opened. A kid got lucky and found an Abreu warmup jacket for $40. The jacket had 79 written on the collar tag. I didn't investigate prices much because there wasn't anything worth buying from my perspective, at least from what I saw. Friends said the same thing. Venturas were going for $300 and a rookie Sanchez for $200 so the very few jerseys that were decent were not cheap.

The Sale jersey I bought in the team's online auction has lots of use.

Profit is not why you do it, right?

And lots of dipshits like yourself. How did I avoid your question? It's pretty simple answer. the last 2 years they have been at $100 so I asked a simple question is jersey a $100 or $1000. She said a hundred and rang it up. The past 2 years the regular jerseys have been 1K and they were up front with some of the other higher prices jerseys. The past 2 years the Jackie Robinson jerseys have been $100 and $125. I think it was a pretty legit question.

Perhaps it is indeed a Chicago thing. Not here to mudsling, but I don't condone stealing from Charity auctions or sales. That, to me, is the lowest of the low things to do, and this guy did it deliberately and knowingly, came here to brag about it, and now I just happened to see the jersey for sale on Ebay for 12x what he paid for it. If he's donating the proceeds minus is original gift back to Sox charities, then I commend him. If the money goes to anything else, it's outright theft. It is already theft. I don't mind someone getting a good deal at a thrift store or on Ebay. This dude took a jersey with a price tag on it that had THREE zeros and told the lady at the counter that it "looked like two zeros to him". Then bragged here about it. The Sox charities do a lot of good work. That's just a scummy thing to do, but I see a lot fof scummy stuff here. This might take the cake.

Thanks for the positive comments about the Bo jersey. It's just about the perfect Sox jersey of his for me. I prefer to have the road one since it has his name on it. The home jerseys back then only had the number. He didn't play in 1992 so the only other year he wore a Sox jersey was in 1993 -- which was a fun year for the team, but can be a tough one for collectors since there's quite a bit of variety when it comes to jersey tagging. Short of a photo match, it can be hard to feel comfortable that a given jersey was indeed worn because of the multiple styles of tagging.

Now I'm on the lookout for jerseys of Carlton Fisk, Bill Melton and Dick Allen. I'm guessing a Fisk one might be obtainable for me someday, but the Melton and Allen ones are going to be really hard to find, especially without breaking the bank.

Nobody else on the site has blatantly stolen items and then come here to brag about it and then tried to re-sell the items for over the original amount that was on the tag in which they took to the counter to suggest to White Sox Charities was an incorrect amount.

Think about that for a moment.

You went to the counter and told the lady that the extra zero was incorrect and the jersey must be $100 instead of $1000. You stole $900 from White Sox Charities, and now you're selling the jersey for over $1200.

Hey, perhaps you have an extra zero on that Ebay listing. Didn't you mean to sell it for $120? or $12?

Not sure how you sleep at night, but nice try blaming me because "people have left the site." I hardly post here and have nothing to do with anything that's happened in the past, but that certainly has nothing to do with you stealing from the White Sox.

That doesn't address the stealing at Soxfest, and please don't publicly try to paint him as the martyr. I've had no less than six private messages from other board members since Saturday congratulating me on calling this guy out. So, now it's a question of how far we want to take this as a group. Don't think for one second that other people think his behavior is acceptable.

There you go again using the word stealing. Once again I paid for it not tucked it into my pants and walked out with it. I also like how when you tell the story you make it sound like I shook her down and held her at knife point. There was no arguing or bickering on price. You have received a few emails and pats on the back. Well done. I have also received emails on how you need to lose the butt hurt and move on. Just so you know the jersey just sold this morning and it was also to a fellow forum member so I guess I should thank you for keeping the thread alive.

I think it's perfectly acceptable what helf did. He asked a question, got an answer, and paid for his items. If the lady had said it was a grand I can only assume helf would have said ok thanks and walked and put the jersey back. I have had a very similar experience at Twinsfest this past year where I was not sure of the color of the sticker on a jersey I really wanted and it was a price difference of $100. I thought it was the more expensive on based on the player but i asked the lady working the checkout and she said it was the cheaper one, so i paid for it and went on my way. Guess that makes me a thief just as much as it does helf huh?!

Of course not. That doesn't make you a thief at all because you honestly didn't know. What Hef did was a crime because he knew what the true price was (we're talking a thousand dollar difference) and purposefully lied to the lady at the counter who did not have any common sense or knowledge. Yes, shame on the Sox for not having more knowledgeable or perhaps keen-eyed people at the checkout table. He talked his way into a $1000 discount from the naive lady at the expense of Sox charities. He doesn't deserve a "that a boy" or "nice job" from anyone here.

It doesn't matter if he's purchased anything in the past or not. He probably wouldn't have gotten away with it if he didn't go to the table with multiple items in hand. Just because he bought other items, it doesn't make the infraction any less severe. Some of the replies in this thread are mind-boggling from the guys who he's helped out.

Enjoy. I spoke with the White Sox front office this week. Had a really nice conversation with two people who run Soxfest and Whitesox Charities. They appreciated the information I gave them and were very engaging and thankful. They keep accurate records going back five years on what is sold and what credit cards are used. I was able to give them copies of post (snip tool is very helpful and links to other discussions and auctions).

Have a nice laugh for awhile. Joke will be on you very soon, downtown35.

Au Contraire.

Received a call back from the Sox today asking for a couple of other follow-up pieces of information. They indeed keep credit card receipts, and along with some Ebay user ID information are able very easily to put two and two together. All three people I've spoken to over there could not have been nicer. Looks like they are seriously going to pursue this.

What he is saying is they do not keep record of what you buy. If I buy one or 50 items all they do is cut the tags off and use a calculator to add it all up. Also considering I'm not hiding it should be pretty easy to find me and my receipts. They can contact me and get my info and I will gladly give it to them so really not a mystery. I Imagine you have told them I took it off the rack and put it under my shirt and walked out with it so I would be happy to share my story of this.

I'll just add that, even if they wanted to, the White Sox have no way whatsoever of matching credit card receipts to specific items sold at their Garage Sales. To say otherwise is hogwash. Let's stop the charade. This site is about providing accurate information for the benefit of collectors, not spreading lies to scare people.

Jealous that someone admitted to essentially stealing something? Not in the least. Your mentality is representative of a few people in the gu collecting community, which is really sad. It's not something I'd be proud of or would tell my kids to do. I don't collect Sale and had no interest in the Jackie Robinson jersey.

I won Alexei Ramirez's Chicago White Sox Minnie Minoso tribute jersey from MLB Auctions. I wanted Jose Abreu's jersey, but when the price got to be too high for me I targeted the Ramirez since he also has the Cuban tie-in with Minoso.

Does anyone know what the other Minoso jerseys went for? I was at Riot Fest on the night the auctions ended. I won the Ramirez at $350, which I thought was a good deal. I'm thinking it'll be the one and only time the Sox wear the #9 jerseys (though I wouldn't be totally surprised if the Sox continue to wear #9 and the Cubs #14 in future crosstown games.)

I'm used to buying White Sox jerseys that are washed at the Garage Sales. This Ramirez obviously came right off his back because it smelled bad.

PALEHOSE1

Some prices realized on the Minoso 1959 jerseys:

Abreu $1831
Rodon $1082
Sale $625
A Garcia $557
Samardzia $425
Putnam $300
Duke $300

I had to go on an international flight the night of the auction so I put strong bids on 4 jerseys and ended up winning three of them which is two more than I need.
I have the Duke and Putnam on ebay for a little more than cost to cover selling / paypal fees.

Picked up a couple bats that are among the best in my collection -- a 1969-70 Luis Aparicio and a 2014 Jose Abreu. Both are uncracked.

The guy I got the Aparicio from said he was with his dad when Aparicio gave the bat to his dad at Comiskey. It had been in their family ever since.

The Abreu rookie has his mom's name on it. It popped up in the Kansas City Royals team store of all places. The store didn't know what it had. A college kid bought it for a steal and turned a nice profit. I'm guessing the bat was mistakenly left in the dugout at the end of a series.

So apparently a bunch of the Adam Dunn bats that were scooped up last year in an attempt to sell them as "Abreu gamers" are now being sold as "Reds" bats from his time in Cincinnati. Just a heads up to anyone who collects Sox or Reds stuff. Be careful out there. The scam artists in this hobby are sickening.

Do you have a link to one of these auctions or offerings? Believe me, I constantly look around for Dunn bats and am stumped by your statement. I've never seen a Dunn White Sox bat being described as having use from his Reds days (2001-2008). Any collector worth their salt would know he almost exclusively used Louisville Slugger bats with the Reds and the LVS bats he did order while with the White Sox had that team name on the barrel. I haven't seen a Marucci bat in Dunn's hands in a game earlier than 2012 (the vast majority were LVS that year) and can't conceive of someone buying a Dunn Marucci thinking it was used as a Red.

You bat is legitimate, and that is why I used it as an example. I know that you saw all the speculators last year scooping up those cheap bats though. Don't think for a second that those bats, once proven not to be Abreu's, are being forced onto the secondary market, sans holos.

I thought a Ventura jersey would be relevant for this thread at this time. First year manager for the SouthSide and a first place team majority of the AL Central thus far.Im Hoping to pick up a 2012 jersey at next years SoxFest to add to my collection. Little did he know that in '95 he would be managing the Sox in 2012 and winning a WS Championship the same season. :D

This jersey is photo matched to many cards and pics through out the '95 season. Robin wore both Wilson and Russel that season but in my opinion this was his most worn home pinstripe. With all the matches I have found and judging by the use of this gamer. Im thrilled to have this in my collection.

I like to use the under arm pinstripes to determine my concrete photo matches if applicable. Patches, numbers and last names are just as good. In my opinion its pretty hard to reverse photo match pinstripes in certain areas.

Very nice Ventura jersey, SSS. I just won a Carlos Sanchez GU rookie cap off salukidave...not as big a deal as a Robin gamer, but still something I enjoy having. Thanks, Dave.

Not sure what you think you have accomplished or whatever it is you think you have done but if it makes you feel good more power to you. As you typed that last statement I laugh at the thought of you high fiving yourself after every key stroke. Every garage sale i attend it seems as my inbox gets larger with requests to look for items which I am happy to do and this year was my largest hual regarding that matter. I was able to find almost a dozen items for fellow collectors which I have as much fun doing that as buying for myself. FYI not much really changed. Pretty much the same as every year other than more people asking you if they could help you find anything.

As far as the Soxfest garage i really liked it this year other than the bat prices. With more players keeping there items players like Cabrera, Abreu and Garcia are pretty slim. There were a few Eaton bats left when I left Sunday along with about 100 Flowers and Ramirez bats. Some of the jersey prices were pretty good other than the high prices on Garcia and Melky. I only did see one Sale and it looked issued at $750 but it did have the Pierce and Minoso patches. I believe a fellow forum member got a steal on the mlb auctions listing that showed tons of use for under that price. It was nice to have someone to have knowledge about authenticated items this year. The woman who was running the show was able to tell you the items that were authenticated as only issued so you didnt have to waste your time trying to look at everything on your phone. It did seem they authenticated most of there items after the season thus most items were only authenticated as issued.

I didnt get into the sale until after the Frazier signing so around 30 minutes after it opened. There were several guys in there with piles of jersey's so maybe there were a few cheaper high end items during the opening.

This is hilarious. You openly admit last year to stealing from a charity event, still show no remorse or humility over it, and try to victimize yourself as a martyr. I can sleep at night. Based on this paragraph of hyperbole you just wrote, it appears you're having trouble doing so. Keep it up. Also, nobody's association with you here legitimizes what you did. That's a classic self-defense argument. I've had a dozen PMs from others on this site telling me how right I am and how wrong you are. My inbox is bursting.

All that said, I enjoyed the sale and had a nice time talking to a couple of front office Sox people over the weekend. They were all very appreciative for the "heads up" on the funny business going on lately at the Garage Sales. I've actually been invited down in two weeks to talk to them about a business proposition. Don't want to give too much away right now though.
