I was wondering if there are many good/preferred sources when looking for pre-1990 jersey photos when attempting style-matching and photo-matching. Had a heck of a time getting 1986 Bo Jackson Royals photos. If he only came up in 1996! Below are my primary sources. If you have other methods, please share.
1. eBay - pretty good stock of press photos from Chicago Tribune in particular. Many photos not dated, however, so there's a fair amount of labor.
2. Google images - the old stand-by. Have found to be of limited use.
3. Getty and AP images - again, found to be of limited use for pre-1990 periods. May images are dated incorrectly or just date 12/31/__ or 1/1/__.
4. Game worn MLB jersey guide by Bill Henderson. I use for tagging/style matching. Well worth the price and then some, although there are variations not covered.
5. Auction house historic sales. Depending on auction house, provenance, etc., can sometimes be a good source for matching/seeing how often a particular jersey has come up for sale, but oftentimes takes a lot of work to get to.
#5 makes me wish someone offered a database tracker for jersey auction sales.
