    Odd game used hat pickup

Just got this from one of the Pirates top prospects, Alen Hanson. Strange thing is, I have never seen a game hat with the strap back. It even has the logo on the back. I guess it helps when you have a lot of hair. Are these new?

Back in the 1980s and 1990s, many MLB teams also used these chintzy-looking snapback lids as spring training caps.

Snapbacks were much more common in the 80s and 90s for spring training and the minors. Perhaps the team ran out of caps in his size? Very strange. I highly doubt it was issued to him purely because snapbacks are currently "in style", hahaha.

Thanks for the info. This hat is the exact same as the fitted hat, except for the strap. Gregory Polanco was wearing one the other day too. These aren't sold in the gift shop...I have never seen a strap back cap with the MILB logo on the back. I really thought it was because of their hair.

Hair? That could be the case. It just seems so strange with fitted caps being the norm and they are quite abundant. The team could have genuinely run out of sizes, but if they have some at the team store then the team has that to fall back on. Do you know if they had all sizes? I've heard from team reps that New Era has horrible customer service (why try when you are a monopoly?) so getting a new shipment of caps in sizes that they need for players would probably take too long to arrive and not to mention a hassle trying to order them.
