    Catcher Moss dies

Les Moss, a 13-year MLB catcher, died August 29 at age 87.

Moss spent the bulk of his career with the Browns/Orioles and White Sox during the 1946-58 seasons, with a brief 1951 stint with the Red Sox thrown in, as well. He also coached in the majors and minors extensively after his playing career ended.

I remember Les Moss taking over to manage the tigers in 1979 after Ralph Houk left after the 1978 season. Les actually had a winnining record but was let go early in the 79 season when the Tigers hired Sparky Anderson.
