    Diamondbacks Fan Fest

GU pickings were about the same as they usually are - fairly poor. Mike (OaklandAsFan) and I hit the yard sale within minutes of the doors opening. Mike actually picked up a couple of jerseys, so he'd have a better idea of what they had in that department - I was totally focused on the bats.

Four barrels, I'd say less than twenty bats per barrel. I was just tossing anything that looked good into a big Ikea bag, and ended up with 15 bats, which I then had to lug about a mile back to my car, 'cause the security guard wouldn't unlock the door that my car was parked just on the other side of...I had to walk around half the stadium twice, once inside and then again outside. The bad part about that was all the dirty looks I got from people just coming in, no doubt thinking, "Look at the jerk who snatched up all the bats!" (Hey, to be honest, that's probably what I would have been thinking.)

Anyway, I didn't see any bats priced more than $30, and at least half were only $25. Seven of the bats I bought had MLB logo stickers. One of my big wants was fulfilled, in that I got a Sean Burroughs from 2011. I actually thought finding one of those was going to be harder. Ryan Roberts, Willie Bloomquist, Kelly Johnson, Joe Saunders, Jason Kubel, Lyle Overbay, Melvin Mora, Cody Ransom, Alberto Gonzalez (broken by Miguel Montero), A.J. Pollock, Micah Owings (used by Craig Breslow, I'm pretty sure), Mike Jacobs, Konrad Schmidt and Ryan Budde were the others. No doubt somebody else would have gotten the Ryan Roberts before I saw it, except that his crabbed little signature is so hard to read. Photos to follow.

The oldest GU anything I saw this year (some bats) were from 2011, a couple of years after Trent was here. Believe me, if I'd seen anything at all, I'd have grabbed it.

That's a heck of a good deal on bats!

That's pretty much what I kept telling myself as I was slowly and painfully lugging them back to my car. (That and "It's only once a year!")

Considering that, in the silent auctions they always do during the regular season games, the bat of a current player like Kubel or Bloomquist would START at $100 to $125 - yeah, I'm pretty pleased.

I am amazed (and a lot bummed, and even more jealous) when I look at the photos in the thread about the Giants Fan Fest GU sale.

RACKS of jerseys! Helmets! At the DBacks Fan Fest, we're lucky to see a couple of badly cracked helmets (I didn't even see that this year) and a few game-worn or -issued jerseys tossed on to a table with the store models. I'm really happy with the bats I got, but overall, in comparison with what some of the other teams do, the GU sales efforts of the DBacks are really kind of pathetic.
