Can anyone tell me more about this tag? It reads...

"Champion Knitwear Mill - Olympic - Champion, Rochester, N.Y."

It's located on the inside collar of a 1926 or 1927 University of Oklahoma Football Letterman's Sweater.

Does the tag jive with the years 1926-'27?

I appreciate the help.

Brian

Don't know if this will be helpful or not, there weren't any pictures just context. The following was pulled from Texas Archical Resources. Same date period you are looking for but there aren't any pictures and the description doesn't go into detail about the tagging.

Born in Vernon, Texas, Percy Ransom Walker was a star player for the Vernon Lions football team from 1922-1924. He went on to attend Texas Technological College from 1925-1930, where he was dubbed, "Handsome Ransom Walker, Tech's Galloping Gazelle," by the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal's sports editor, Rankin Dow. A variation of Walker's nickname was "the Galloping Gazelle of the Gridiron."

During his time at Tech, Walker lettered in basketball, football and track. Awarded an Amon Carter Scholarship, he became the first captain of the football team and the 1926 basketball team. He was also named the college's "Best All-Around Athlete" during his sophomore, junior and senior years. In addition, Walker was the first Tech player chosen to play in the East-West Shrine football classic (1928-1929) which was held in San Francisco, California.

Sweater, red pullover with crossover neckline, ribbed sleeves and waistline. Black and red "double T" lettermen's patch machine-stitched to front of sweater center. Two black stripes on left arm in sweater surface. Tag inside sweater reads: "CHAMPION KNITWEAR MILLS INC. ROCHESTER N.Y." Holes at right arm ribbed cuff and ribbed waist, as well as scattered throughout the torso. Soiled on the back and frontsides of the sweater as well as the right arm sleeve. Discoloration among the yarns to a beige color concentrated on the front of the sweater and the right sleeve.
