2000 San Diego Chargers Junior Seau Thowback Helmet Question

Hey Guys! I have a helmet in my collection and have always been curious about its origin and what it is. I don't know alot about helmets and could use some help.
I met long time San Francisco 49ers Publicist Dave Rahn a few years ago. I purchased a helmet he had received as a gift from Junior Seau from what he remembered was the 2000 season. Dave had done a few favors for Junior that year and provided him some Game Used 49ers Gear for his Restaurant and Golf Tournaments. He said this helmet arrived in a box at his office addressed directly from Chargers Park, from Junior as a thank you gift for his help.
Looking at the helmet I have always been curious if this was a team issued helmet for Junior that season or just a helmet put together for Junior to give as a gift. Also saw a sticker inside that says "Circle Reconditioners". I thought maybe it was game used and reconditioned. Did Junior ever wear this Schutt style of helmet? Also read on this forum that Sid Brooks used to use the gold slotted screws on the face masks during that time, and this one does have them. Also noticed the bolts stickers were applied unevenly and its noticeable from the back.
Overall I absolutely love the helmet. The fact he gave it to his friend Dave as a gift adds a little something to it and makes it special. I am thinnking of send it to PSA/DNA for the autograph. Would be nice if they could authenticate as a "Team Issused". Let me know what you guys think.
    THANK IN ADVANCE! Jeff

As far as I know Seau always wore a Riddell VSR-4 and occasionally a Riddell Revolution. The helmet you have appears to be an Adams with a Schutt chinstrap. I'm by no means an expert and may be wrong so don't hold me to this. Maybe another member can add more, but my guess is it's a helmet Junior had made up to look like one of his and signed it. Either way it's still a great piece.

The helmet that you have is a Bike helmet - later Adams. I own the 2000 Throwback Seau helmet. It is a Riddell VSR4 in an XL.

Thanks for the info guys. I wonder why the team would put this together as a gift and not use the normal type of helmet he uses? Is this type/style of helmet even used in the NFL?

2000 is roughly about the time that these helmets were introduced by Bike. They were the preferred helmet used in the XFL in 2001, were used by some NFL players (Warren Sapp, Trace Armstrong, Sebatian Janikowski) and were used in College Football (LSU). They never really caught on, sold the helmet line to Adams who offered it for a few years, and they in turn sold it to Schutt. Adams no longer offers football helmets.

Not sure why it was given away, however if it was sitting around the equipment room, given to the team as a sample, and no one wanted to wear it, why not give it away. What else would they do with it? What better way to make it attractive then to slap 55's on it. Just my thoughts...

Yea that makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the info. I do appreciate it. Can I get a sneak peek at that 2000 season game used Seau you have? How did you acquire that amazing piece? To me that would be my holy grail of grails, other than his 1994 game used Super Bowl or afc championship game used jersey. Any one here happen to own one of those?
