Early Nolan Ryan caps

Interesting item came up on the GU Net 54 forum regarding early Nolan Ryan caps. Apparently, many early caps have a break or severe crease in the bill, approximately 1" to right of centerline when viewed straight on. I only have one Angels cap that I bought from Tallyman (Walt) with the same crease. Anyone know the story behind the crease/breaks in the bill?
