Hi Shawn,

Thanks for making this post. I had originally bid on it thinking it was a pro bat. I didn't even look close enough at it to see the Ensley JC engraving. This bat is a college bat. Basically, it's a pro model Norm Cash bat made available and ordered by Ensley Junior College.

Hope this helps.

Tim

Hi Shawn

As Tim correctly pointed out, the Norm Cash bat you asked about is a college bat.

Here is the additional info on Norm Cash bats. A review of his personal factory records from 1955 through1974 shows that only four orders of Model R43 bats are documented as having been sent to him for his professional use --- Three of those orders were his first three orders of H & B bats in 1955 and 1956 (34 1/2" / 34 oz). The fourth order is documented in 1959 (35" / 31 oz).

Additionally, it is noted that throughout his career, Cash was shipped 34 1/2 inch and 35 inch bats over 98 % of the time, regardless of model. Only five orders of bats are documented at 34 inches (1971 and 1973) and a single order is documented at 36 inches (1970).

Check closely any Model R43 bats from labeling periods after 1950-1960. Often H & B would use one of a player's earliest models as his "pro stock" model, used to fill team orders (team index bats), college orders, and various promotional orders.

Good Luck in future collecting.
