    Tucson unies resurrected

The bizarre uniform style worn by the Tucson Toros in 1980 will be brought back for a Turn Back the Clock night hosted by the Tucson Padres on June 8. Photo of original below.

Wow, look at that style. Apparently the Toros were the first baseball team to do the "Turn Ahead the Clock" promotion!

I actually have a complete game used jersey and pants from that style. It has a special place in my collection, right next to the early 80's Las Vegas Stars yellow knits, which aren't very much better....

On a related note, I'd love to own one of these Arizona State baseball jerseys from that era:

I just picked up what I think is a 1980 Toros uniform game uniform tonight, although it doesn't look like it's been used. It's made by Betlin. I'll try to get some photos up later.

I've seen a story that the original uniforms in 1980 were washed in warm water and the colors ran. I don't know if they kept wearing them or if they were replaced.

OK - this isn't a great post, but is there any tip to downsizing photos to fit the upload limit? The only pictures I can fit are tags, which aren't as interesting without the rest of the photos.

I have been using this software for years, works great. The large size options works really well on here. Heres the link....

Thanks! Here are the jersey photos. This jersey is the less garish option, as it doesn't include any torquise panels. I don't know if this was a home or away jersey, but I don't think it was ever worn in a game. Anyway,TOROS and the number are screened on, and the jersey is fairly light. The orange collar and cuff trim is sewn on, and the yellow, red, orange and red "sash" is a seperate trim piece. It's a size Xl jersey made by Betlin.

Here are the pants. They are also made by Betlin but seem much heavier. They feature the same odd, asymetrical trim as the jersey sash: yellow, red, orange red. The pants are unused.

Finally, from the ridiculous to the sublime. This is a mid-70's Toros jersey from when the Toros were Oakland's AAA affiliate. It's a 1973 McAuliffe jersey passed down from the A's and refitted with the Toros logo and olive and white collar trim instead of the standard gold and white trim (I don't know why they did that). If I remember, I got it from Cramer Sports Promotions in Portland or Seattle. They had an ad in "The Trader Speaks" in the late 1970's and they were selling a jersey and a pair of pants for $25. If I hadn't been a teenager I would have bought them all, but it least I got one.
