MLB Ball Authentication Process

Does MLB have a link, or do you guys know, how the heck they track the "Joe Smith RBI hit ball" or "Joe Smith Double in 2nd innnig"

it seems crazy to track it, but im sure there is a reason

Current procedures are to station a volunteer next to the dugout. The bat boys give him balls brown out of lay, and he immediately marks the ball for its last use.
